Hey Folks!

Recently picked up this new to me, 2016 Black LC. I found it with 36k on the odometer after looking for about 6 months...Paint was blistered by a kiddo with the spinny wheel at the dealer and a torn up steering wheel... but overall clean start to a daily OEM+ build! Came with the Tundra BBS wheels, which I like.

I've had it for a few months and already kicked it over 40k miles. Its been a great vehicle so far.

P1 Plans:
Vision: Build an OEM+ road trip machine.

Must Haves:
Be able to Self-Support (Fridge/fresh water/power) for up to 2 days without restarting or moving the vehicle.
Sleep 3 people
All storage must be contained below the full-mattress sleep system, or half if we bring the big fridge for BIG trips
Capable enough to confidently cruise Engineer pass and comfortable enough to run 80mph to get there from Tennessee.

Build Vision list before this summer trip:
Dual Battery system, Custom-built drawer system + Sleeping platform W/ integrated Dometic Drawer fridge and slide out electric range, Westcot Lift, 1in wheel spacer, 34in tire, Aluminum Skids, BD fog lights, Sliders, Roof Rack, Helper Bags or stiffer spring,

Current Mod List :
Paint Correction + Ceramic Coating (09/25)
3D-Printed cup holder (09/25)
7-Pin Connector (09/25)
OffRoam (HVAC vent) Phone Mount (09/25)
BeatSonic CarPlay Installed - (11/25)
Redarc Trailer-brake controller (11/25)
Seat Risers (11/25)
Westcot Collar Lift (02/26)
Firestone Airbags (02/26)
1in Bora wheel Spacer (02/26)
285/75r18 AT tires (02/26)
Graphite Powder coated BBS wheels (02/26)
New Steering wheel (02/26)

Ordered or about to order:

Welcome! Looking good!

Steering wheel is a common fault on 16+. Move is to pick up the full leather OEM replacement when there’s a parts sale (like now). Search for steering wheel upgrade thread, has the part numbers.

Custom drawers are great but keep an eye on classifieds/marketplace, used ARB’s pop up from time to time.

Since you have a 16 check your radiator to see if you have the updated design. Lots of threads on that.

Thank you, sir! I'm a big fan.

I've learned about the Steering wheels this year... TBH, I thought it was a 200-series thing... all the ones I looked at, up to a '21 heritage, had steering wheel damage. I sleuthed a PN of a full leather W/heat. I am grabbing that one and will install it when we knock out the battery system....unless i get tired of looking at the mess and swap it one afternoon, lol

Good call on the aftermarket space... I've got a set of KISS drawers in my 100. Air Down/Gear up is the only group that incorporates the drawer fridge i want to include. Unfortunately, I spent that budget on the rig, lol. I'll never be able to make something close to their standards, but we will certainly give it a shot and let y'all be the judge!

Yes - Radiator is on the short list.

Preciate the kind words and guidance!

Welcome to the 200 section! Awesome find on the low mile LC.

Keep posting pictures of your progress, your going a very similar direction as I'm going on my 2016 so I'll be anxious to see updates!

Can't wait to see the 295's go on with your thoughts. I had 295/70-18's on my 100 series and want to do the same on this one.

Congrats and welcome! It took us about 2 years of searching to find our black 12k mile 2013, so I know the feeling. Looking forward to seeing the build.

Amazingly low miles! Before you go full dual battery set-up, consider using one of the many solar power stations on the market now. I have the EcoFlow brand and it’s very versatile. I consider it a much better application for power than a complex dual battery arrangement.

Thanks - When it popped up in my automated alerts, I couldn't believe it. The dealer just sent it out, and didn't mark up for the unique community. We had a contract secured in a few hours.

I've got a couple projects completed. I plan to keep updating this thread with the latest!

I'm still torn on tire size... but i think the 295 will look the best, and I can always re-gear is the drivability sucks...But after living with 305' on a 100 without a re-gear, I'm sure the 200 will feel peppy!

Wow - amazing patience on your part! I didn't think i'd find one this low, but they are out there if you are patient, then act incredibly fast! The dealer said they had a couple calls offering to trailer it out...they told me this after the sale, so I dont think this was a tactic, but I always lean towards a dealer lying to me and make them prove the truth.

Thanks for the tip. I actually use a Jackery in my 100 for trips, and only get about 1 day without needing to restart for a charge. Its great for overland trips where we drive/wheel every day, but sucks for any long term camping in the south (trees make solar tough out here)

I am going dual battery all the way with this build for the integrated approach to power mgmt - Its going to be WAAAAY overkill, and im excited!

I hear you about trees. Most off-road/off-grid campsites here in the upper Midwest are shady. If you don’t plan on solar, how will you charge your second battery?

We had a similar experience to you! We almost gave up and started looking at G wagons. They are out there, but it does take time and quick action for sure.

While we were there already signing the paperwork for ours, the small exotic car dealer received multiple calls right in front of us.

We only wanted a black on black '13-15 and under 20k miles so it took a while to find a 10 year old rig with 12k miles and in that spec.

Well, thats the challenge i've been working with my buddy to figure out, and to get to my goal of 2-3 days, he is leaning towards more battery. Right now, looking at 600ah of house battery, and have it integrated to charge off the alternator when we start the rig back up.

admittedly, i'm not the expert in this realm, and i'm leaning on a good friend who builds his own batteries, lol

You were a lot more specific than i was... We were 16+, low miles. I had accepted that I was going to have to pay north of 80k to get that... I had even taken a multi hour trip to buy an HE, and arrived to find the interior trashed.

Out of nowhere, then this one pops up at 58k, and i couldn't believe it. Called right in, and the guy who happened to pick up the phone got a sale that day!

Haha yes, we had a vision for an ideal 200 series Land Cruiser.

Wow you stole that one at that price! Less than what we paid for our 2013, albeit with less miles.

Project Carplay +Redarc

I installed the Beatsonic harness about a month ago. Great upgrade... Wireless CarPlay really brings this 2016 into current times.

Only about 1.5hrs to install, and that was due to learning where the tabs are on the interior panels. I could probably knock this out in less than an hour now. Got everything sealed up...but before, I threw the Redarc trailer brake controller.

Anyone else running a Carplay system? I almost went Hamilton.....

Been quietly collecting parts and planning out the project in one swoop.

Westcot Spacer lift installed front and rear
Firestone airbags in the rear
Powder-coated the BBS wheels
1in bora spacers
Wrapped them in 285/75/18...

Also, ripped out the scratched-up steering wheel for a fresh one.

To-do -

Order the KDSS relo kit,
Get the OTT tune
Go on an adventure
