Has anyone out there put an intercooler on an LJ78? Where would I get one? The aussies seem to love them on there 2LT-E's. Any info on hood scoops? Any information would be greatly appriciated!!

Cheers,
Kevin:cool:

i would love to help you out on this project as i have thought this might help the issue as well as making the little engine more responsive.
if you don't mind using the supplier out of the states i can get a custom sized intercooler made up.
we can also do a custom hood scoop out of aluminum.

i wouldn't recommend the front mount on the LJ since it is already way too tight up there...
you could go off to the left side like the Pajero does as long as you do not have the 2 battery setup. this would give some excellent air flow...

just thinking out loud here.

I haven't done it yet, still in the planning stage, I don't think there is enogh room on top of the engine for a intercooler, plus there isn't much space between the turbo and the intake manifold so you wouldn't get a very big intercooler up there. And there is the issue of heat rissing up to where the intercooler is.

I am very seriously considering this intercooler http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TURB...emQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ009QQitemZ190144400742

To mount up front between the frame ahead of the lower rad support, if the bottom of this intercooler is level with the botom of the frame then the top will overlap with the bottom of the rad by 4" a piece of sheet metal attached to the top of the intercooler and bent behind the intercooler to force hot intercooler air down under the frame will prevent it from overheating the rad, but then again may reduce airflow through the rad too much, if that is the case a pusher fan for the rad may be required. also the power steering cooler will have to be relocatedb as the factory steel hoses are obstructing the space I will need for the intercooler intake. So if I do this I will also upgrade power steering cooler and move it to the right side of the rad.

Crushers if your guy in the states can make a custom intercooler that will fit between the frame and 4" shorter than the link above I would be very interested (inlet and outlet would have to be elbow on top ofi nterooler for to work).

i was thinking a custom jobbie between the turbo and the intake or off to the intake side with some nice tubing. short... if the Pajero can do it i thing the Prado can as well.
the one on the PZJ was top mounted and had a good inch to spare in height. the LJ being mounted a bit shorter will need to be closer tolerances but i "think" it can be done... will need to do some measurments to make sure though.

hey, boddysurfer, care to bring your rig over so i can do some measurements?

Hey Crushers,

I'll gladly bring my rig over, when I get it back.... Should be out of the shop by thursday. I'm keen to see what you can come up with!!!

we have our annual sept long weekend Land Cruiser run this weekend (if you want to see what a Prado can do come out for a day or the weekend) and i am going out to organize and setup on thursday...
if i don't see you this weekend we can hook up next week...

i have a couple different ideas i want to explore...

cheers
