The purpose of this thread is to document in one place (with the forum's help) any aftermarket belts that are known to fit correctly, are relatively quiet, and have a reasonable lifetime. It's been discussed many times in the past that cogged aftermarket belts are known to make noise and that a matched set of alternator belts are recommended. Possible exception is that some companies have high manufacturing standards so their belts may have very little variation in specifications even though two (alternator) belts of the same part number may not be "matched".

And we all know OEM works well, use the matched set for the alternator belts, etc, etc but that's not the purpose of this thread.

So if anyone has installed aftermarket accessory belts (Alternator/Fan, AC compressor) on a FZJ80 or FJ80 (please indicate which model/engine) that fit well, didn't make noise, cogged/non-cogged, and lasted a reasonable amount of time/miles, please list the information here particularly if the aftermarket belt lasted longer than OEM.

Conversely, if a specific brand/part number (belt) did not fit/work well and were noisy list that information also.

Some examples of non-cogged accessory belts for the FZJ80:

1. - Toyota Gold standard; factory-matched pair for alternator/fan.
- Alternator/Fan: Part #90916-02353-83

2. - Mitsuboshi (Japanese, OEM supplier for Toyota

-----AC: ~925 mm
- Width: 11 mm (alt/fan), 13 mm (AC).

- Alternator/Fan: 11A1130 Hi-Power or 87840 equivalent (matched pair).
- AC Compressor: Equivalent smooth A13x925 / 7360.
- Lengths:

-----AC: ~925 mm
- Width: 11 mm (alt/fan), 13 mm (AC).
- Height (depth): ~8–9 mm.

6. - ProTorque (? UK; smooth wrapped non-cogged, not widely available in the US except @landtank
High Torque Wedge Fan Belts for the 1FZ engine - https://landtankproducts.com/products/high-torque-wedge-fan-belts?_pos=1&_sid=a63632897&_ss=r

7. - Dayco 17360 (13A0915) AC
15450 (11A1145) Alternator/WP

Remarks:
With rare exceptions cogged belts are known to make more noise than non-cogged
Buy matched pairs (same brand/batch) for the alternator/fan belts when possible (or from manufacturers known to have tight specs like Optibelt, Mitusboshi)
After installation and a short ~5 minute drive/runtime, check belt positioning then re-tension the belts ("used" tension spec). Recheck regularly thereafter.
Inspect/replace the AC Tensioner pulley (or the bearing) and Alternator idler pulley if worn, noisy, notchy, etc.

Please list below the brand name and part number of any aftermarket belts you have expeience using in your 80 Series (specify model/engine)

I've never been happy with non-OEM belts on an 80. They all seem to make some sort of noise or fit poorly. With the Toyota belts being so reasonably priced, its a no-brainer to use them, and keep spares.

Yes, if you have access to Toyota belts, install them.

Many years ago i bought Bosch drive belts which were non-ribbed like the OEM toyota ones and they worked fine.
I now have them as spares in the back with the floor jack

A ribbed belt on the AC shouldn't make noise as the idler / adjustment pulley isn't a flat surface unlike the ALT idler the belt runs along

I had an a/c belt brake on me during a trip through the desert. The closest town had a Napa and told them my make and model since I didn't know what size the belt was. They sold me a a ribbed gates belt I think. I borrowed some of their tools and put it on in the parking lot, thanked them for their help and went on my way with functioning ac. As @robnicko stated, it didn't make any noise that I can remember. I replaced with OEM some time later and kept it as a back up.
