This might be a silly question, but can you register an old license plate to a vehicle instead of a new license plate. if so, would it void a historic plate?

Yes. It has nothing to do with a historic plates. It does cost about $10 more. Also....for those who may not know....a historic plate is just a plate like any other. It does not effect emissions requirements. Collector car insurance will get you out of emissions. Also....collector car insurance is not as restrictive as it once was. Check with your agent for details.

I have licensed all the Cruisers I have owned with the correct vintage plate.

I am using 73 plates on an FJ40. It's registered in a non emissions area. Doesn't cost me any extra. It was my plate since 74. Came on my 68. Kept it when the maroon and white letters replaced it. When I registered the current 70 it's was told no charge since it was a previous plate of mine. Would like to sell the 70 it's on but will keep the plates to put back on the 68. I also have a couple of yellow plate with black letters plates. Those are the previous plates from 69-72. Those date back to the move to AZ in 1971. My 73 FST which has not been registered since 1988 still has the original 73 plates. If I ever get around to it get it running it's original plates will be used..

who do you go through for collector car insurance?

That's who I use as well. They are pretty good. I have asked them personally about the restrictions and they had mentioned that they prefer that you enjoy and use your vehicle. Just don't put a million miles on it. that sold me on them.

Hagerty and State Farm are one in the same in some regards. I already had State Farm Classic insurance and received notice last year they were bringing in Hagerty.

If you get the 1000 yard stare from your State Farm agent about a JDM or Middle East truck ping me. My State Farm agent grew up in Saudi. Her dad worked for ARAMCO and she knows her ROW Land Rovers and 70 Series truck very well. I have never had any issues getting insurance on anything thru her.

Question; Are any plates stamped anymore? I kinda miss the days when it put some inmate to work in Florence.
