I wonder if there's a way to just upgrade the touchscreen. I'm fine with the functions, but the screen was really low resolution and very hard to read in bright sunlight.

My daughter got a cheap Chinese knockoff Android tablet for Christmas a couple years ago. It was a total piece of garbage. Glitchy, SLOW, and overwhelmingly underwhelming. Ended up getting another under warranty (sort of) and it was almost as bad as the first, but you could tell it wasn't really defective, just crappy. Very interested to see how this turns out, but very skeptical.

Wow, two options in one post? And the first link video shows it controlling the HVAC which to my understanding was the main reason 2003+ couldn't swap out head units.

Someone has got to try one or both of these. I'd be fine with either if they work. I wonder if we could add a normal AMP and stereo system then...?

Pretty cool find. If op is able to implement I am all over this!!

How much was the unit?

subscribed...Haven't bought my 100 yet but this look pretty sweet.

I see there is an LC option on the site. I also saw the pictures posted are both LC and Lexus. Very interested to see if this works.
Since it has inputs you could get a Sirius unit that has output cables like this
Sirius Stratus 7

So if this works, does this mean you can replace everything else that is downstream (amp and speakers)? My speakers are poppy when turned up and I would like to add a discrete sub in a box outside of the panel in the back.

That can be done now without changing the head unit. I have replaced all 4 speakers and I reconed the sub because space is more a concern with my use case. There are a ton of links in the forum on that topic and some good step by step with pictures for the speaker replacement. You have to modify your stock speaker brackets but it is a  job for sure....

XDA forums have android HU forum for these:

Android Head Units

I ran this one in my 2500HD truck last year and loved it:

Universal 6.2 inch Quad-core Android 4.4 Car Stereo GPS Navigation System 2 Din support 3G WIFI OBD2 DVR Air Play Steering Wheel Control - Pumpkin

I bought it because it was the only quad core radio on the market last year and was as fast a premium tablet. It has the stock 4.4 android tablet software with a few automotive specific apps built in.

The only problem I had with the radio was it froze 3 times in the boot up phase in the 6 months I used it; I just cut it off and on to reboot it. I only pulled the radio out because the adapter I used was garbage and caused a lot of problems with the GM door chimes and onstar which are routed through the stereo in their vehicles.

Very interested to hear how it goes!
Did the unit arrive today?
How does it look?

When I emailed and asked it was $502 shipped. They only allow wire transfer from bank to bank, western union or another option I forgot. They were prompt in responding to my questions via email. I think I'll hold out until I hear more from this thread.

i really hope this deal works out. i always get nervous when payment cannot be made by credit card for insurance reasons. bank wire/MoneyGram/Western Union = once the money is gone, it's gone and never coming back. lots of trust involved. $500 isn't going to destroy anyone financially, but it's not loose change either.

Don't remember what I was looking for but found the site below. No mention HVAC controls but the unit looks nice and we get to keep the temp/clock display which gives a more OEM look to dash. Their website looks very similar to the one Macmann is dealing with. Interesting....until a week ago we had no option, now we may have two? Anybody heard/tried this unit before?

^ That's photoshopped (badly). You can see where they went at the buttons left of the screen with the blur tool. No images on their site of one actually installed. Dubious.

A tineye.com reverse image search shows the pre-photoshopped image is all over the web.
