Could you provide a pats list? I would like to convert my 2000 LX470 to this configuration.
  • Where did you buy the SC430 projector assembly from? A link and part number would be great. Was it OEM Toyota?
  • Did you have to buy a new HID power source to drive your lights? Was it OEM toyota? My genre of LX470 has a halogen bulb.
  • Which CBI bulb did you buy?
I just bought a set of interior LED lights from PFRAN, a very nice interior lighting upgrade.

Thanks! Great write-up.
I bought the projectors & the CBI bulbs from a retrofitter on hidplanet.com. CBI bulbs are the D2S 5500k. The projectors are oem. Came from 03 Lexus SC430. I had a set of denso ballast already. & the beauty of it is you don't need any modifications because it all mounts up as if they were meant to be together

The advantage of the SC430 swap as I see it is that the spec'd Xenon lamp, projector and lens were designed to work together to provide good coverage, focus, edge sharpness, etc. The TSX-R lens swap uses shims between lens and existing LX470 projector to improve the focus and coverage. And, with the TSX solution you're dealing with a stock LX projector that wasn't designed to take a Xenon bulb...you can make it work, but it was designed for 55w halogen.

While I like the SC430 swap, it's a lotta dough when you see the prices the units get on ebay. And, it still requires getting the headlight on your LX apart by using heat to soften the adhesive.
Well NJNEAL, my actual 1st retrofit on this truck was a morimoto hid kit with the H1 bulb, 4300k with the tsx-r clear lens. I covered the squirrel holes up with foil tape to eliminate those circles over the cutoff line. Output was wayyy better than stock. Easily light up 6-7 lanes. Only downfall is the beam disappear when it rains. That's why I went this route & I will tell you it's well worth it.

These are the Pics of the 1st time I retrofitted my truck. Morimoto hid kit with tsx-r clear lens, 4300k H1 bulbs. As you can see the output is way better than stock.

What is the advantage of the SC430 projectors vs a TSX lens swap (w/ spacers) on the existing projectors?

LX470 Projector - TSX-R Lens Swap
Another advantage is output, SC430 projectors with the clear lens is equal or better than the S2000. my honest opinion, the tsx lens swap output I did the 1st time I retrofitted the truck is close to the sc output but the sc output intensity is 100 times better. The tsx also lit up 6-7 lanes with a nice spread. The sc also lites up 7-8 lanes but the output intensity just blows the tsx lens swap using the LX projectors out the water. Not to mention the CBI bulbs gets brighter after break in period

Its looks great. Glad you took the effort to put in work rather than just installing a "hid kit" like others. I haven't done my cruisers yet but I installed modded TL bixenons w/ Nightbreakers in my old DD. Probably one of the best mods I've ever done. Just haven't had the time to do them on the cruisers. I do have some rx330 projectors that I will be modding when I have some free time.

How does one go about getting all the necessary "ingredients" (i.e., parts, etc.) to complete this project at home?

Where to get them? and how much do they cost?

Also, any special tools needed to do this?

I happen to catch a guy selling the projectors and bullbs on hidplanet.. all you need is just the projectors. U gotta do a lot of cutting

Guys this retro was easy to do. Once you open the headlights, just remove the projector. & just cut lx projector out & try not to break the bracket because it's all one piece. then open up the SC projectors (just 2 screws holding it). Put the bracket in between & screw it all back together and your done.

After your write up - I had spent some time trying to find the SC430 projectors as it looks like a fairly easy upgrade. However , I can't see buying SC430 headlights to get the projectors out of them at like 300.00 each.

You mention hid planet as your source for them, do you know of other avenues to source the projectors?

Retrofit source.com is a start. & try to google retrofitters. The projectors go for $250 & cbi bulbs $185.

Jason, Google headlight retrofitters & you'll find retrofitters just selling the projectors. Like I said they normally run $250 a set.

I may have missed a step somewhere, but did you cut the SC projector mounting "legs" off before you put the LX mounting plate between the housing halves?

Possibly have any pictures of the back of the SC housing after modifying it?

Second question, my SC headlights had D2S cast into the outer plastic housing. My Denso ballasts have D4S on the sticker. Will the D4S fit in my projector housing or will the ballast properly ignite a D2S bulb? Should I get different ballasts and use D2S bulbs?

I have a pair of SC projectors and don't want to screw this up.

You have to damn near shave the whole entire thing in order to flush the LX plate in between. All pieces should look like this when your done.

& as far as your 2nd question: you better off getting D2S bulbs and ballast. & getting rid of your D4S setup. Go to hidplanet.com & you might find someone willing to swap. It wont.
