i'm doing some driving lately.
1. i bought the SLEE OEM and supplementary harnesses a long time ago and plan to install the OEM harness. i'm told that will help the lighting. anything else i can do?
2. anyone have any recommendations for used old school supplemental lighting? i've got the SLEE short bus front bumper so i'm happy to mount it there.
3. any recommendations for used old school fog lights?
4. any recommendations for roof rack mounted lighting?
any good reason to start with one or the other if i am particularly concerned with night driving?
5. also if i am buying used can i expect to just clean things up and sand electrical contacts and maybe fix some wiring? or in some cases will it be impossible to buy new bulbs or how does this work?
THANKS

Hella 5000s on the bumper
9011 HIRs in the low beam spot
4 or 5 round halogen spots and floods on the roof rack

That should bring it back to early 2000s

thanks. i had heard is the hella 5000's.
can i ask a couple more here Sd?
for the hellas i get lenses that come with numbs and some kind of mounting hardware? or i try to find a listing with all three?
also i think i have 9011's in my low beams already but i guess i can check. are new lenses worth it?(!)
also what is going to help me with night driving on the highway? i feel like i am using my high beams an awful lot to see the road ahead...?(!)

9011s in all 4 positions stock wiring.
Pair of Baja Designs XL Pro on the ARB turns night into day. Awesome for those 2 lane mountain roads.
Light bars are excellent for blinding oncoming traffic and look silly, unless you're driving a jeep with lots of ducks on the dash.
Baja Designs XL Pro uses individual emitters just like a lightbar. The only difference is the layout. Electronic drivers, quality LEDs, and reflector design determine the light output.

Pods vs lightbars? It's just packaging.

Personally I like the look of "round" offroad lights on an older vehicle, but this is what I am running now.
- 10 year old Amazon special lightbar
- Diode Dynamics SAE fog in Amber.
The Diode Dynamics put out significantly more light than the Amazon special. I will either replace the Amazon special with a quality lightbar or move the Diode Dynamics to the top of the bumper and put round offroad lights in their place.

Pair of lights with 6 XML2 running around 12000 lumens total. Nice low profile and understated look with plenty of light.

You can see when I flip them on :)

cheers,

Hella for the period correct look. Here they are on my ShortBus. If you buy the Euro-spec models, they have a 15w bulb which can be powered by tapping into the parking lights, which give me a bit of daytime running lights when it's cloudy out, and also lights the housings at night when they're not in use. Mine are wired into a relay triggered by the High Beams, so the spots only come on with brights. It works great for long desert tracks at night when you don't want to out drive your ability to see.

The housings are all metal, they fit nicely in the valley mounts between the bars, and the lenses are glass - and I recommend buying the heavy vinyl protectors to be applied when new to protect from rocks. They're good quality.

cant go past the IPF800's. (driving & spot combination)

I still have mine and am thinking of putting them back on. LED's are good but they can be a bit much and the noise on AM radio drives me crazy !

+1 for the rallye 4000s. Got this sweet period correct HID pair for $60 on marketplace. Still hangs with modern LEDs.

Custom red paint on those?

Funny story, I did a water crossing once that somehow got moisture into my Hellas. I pulled the front face, and put a tablespoon of dry rice inside and sealed it all back up. Was over at my parents house one day and my Dad came out to look at the LandCruiser and immediately notices the rice in the bottom of each light bucket. He says, "You couldn't help but rice-out your truck, could you?"

The rice is still in there.

any thoughts on these? $100 never used from a motorcycle guy.
i think they must be 530's even though he says 350's?
i'm mostly looking for night driving but also interested in lighting up trails.
/also - are the hella 4000/5000 too bright for highway driving?
