Yep, it's true. I just don't care that much.
the "rear sliders" as you call then are part of the bumper.... these two bumpers are attached to the rear crossmember ( in the case of the '60" and an additional crossmember added across the rear (in the case of the 4runner). The rear of the bumpers is also attached to the frame rails. The sides that extend forward are attached to the frame rails also with short struts. These strusts are angled upward to creat a bit of triangulation with the other mounts, so that the resist any upward flexing under impact.
