Good luck with that. It is recommended to do a regear with 35's, so you will more than likely have to do it wit 37's. And most 16" wheels are hard to fit on an FJ, so 15" will be a huge pain in the ass. You'll need super spacers and maybe some caliper grinding to get it to work.

Would 17's with 35's or 37's be the best without having to re-gear, I am very new to this. Fell in love with Fj's after seeing my brothers fj40 and 62. The Fjc just caught my eye and have heard of only great things about them. Thanks for the help.

I was thinking you might want to look at 17"s with 35s, but then again, those tires look aggressive enough to take off and have some fun with. Not much airing down, though.

Nice trucks guys!

Thanks, those 33's are so damn expensive I don't really want to go tearing them up, and yeah, no airing down.

35's are really the biggest diameter tire you can put on an FJ without regearing. Even then it is recommended that you regear, but not everybody does. Your choice. You could do a 17" wheel if you'd like with a 35" tire, lots of people do this size setup. If you thought your 33's were expensive wait till to check out the 35's. Of course this all depends brand to brand, but generally the bigger the tire, the higher the price.

When I put my 34" tires on, the cruise control drove me crazy until I re-geared. There's no way I would go bigger without re-gearing but YMMV, my truck is real heavy too so that affects it some. If you never drive on the highway or use your cruise control you could get by without I guess.

How much does regearing cost if I do it myself and is it something that is difficult to do?

Three years ago when I did mine, it was $1200 just for the parts (including master install kits w/ all new bearings), and you can probably figure on another $4-500 for labor per diff if you just leave your truck at a shop. The better way to do it is to buy the third members on exchange already set-up by pros. East Coast Gear Supply does this and so do a few others. Then all you have to do is remove and re-install both diffs.

To do everything yourself is not rocket science, but it does take a lot of patience and trial-and-error to get the mesh on the ring and pinion set just right, and you want it set just right or they will not last.

Welcome to the FJC section of IH8MUD! Nice looking rig you got there. **Take it on any sweet jumps?
