So helpful. Carry on...
Well someone asked about aftermarket bushes, and I said 'Forget Pedders'.

So let me explain.

Noting you are not new to the forum, and you show you have two Land Cruisers, I had (possibly wrongly) assumed you had heard of Pedders? If you have, then my quote of 'Forget Pedders' surely says it all?

If on the other you have never heard of Pedders, then my quote of 'Forget Pedders' surely says it all?

Regards

Dave

So, Pedders is a manufacturer of shytty bushings?

Here in the USA, I've never heard of them. But now I have.

I'm gonna go buy some, just because you said not to .........

It was 2 years ago, but do you recall if you allowed the vehicle to rest at ride height+bounce it around a bit before torquing everything down?

edit: if you had a shop do it it’s safe to assume that was done as that’s standard practice for all bushing installations. (Unless you got a lift without bushing replacement as leonard_nemoy’s buddy experienced other shops doing, but you didn’t mention anything about a lift)
Yes, i had the shop installed the bushings and they were installed and tightened/torqued to spec. when the truck is on the ground..I have a 4" lift on 37s..

I printed bushings out of tpu.
These gray ones have been in my rear suspension for over a year. I also have the first one that has been in for much longer.

If there is a technical service bulletin showing the previous installation orientation as incorrect with a new orientation to use, then chances are the fsm is incorrect if it does cover installation orientation.

But either way, I didn't even know they had holes that needed to be aligned until I opened the box from cruiser outfitters. I just ordered some bushings and took the package to my buddies to install them with his press. I didn't think about checking the FSM(step#6  ) when my buddy asked me what way they should be pressed in. He is a long time tech and it was his opinion they should be installed with the holes in the 3 and 9 position. I just pulled the other arm and that is also how they were installed, so I agreed with him and that's the way we installed them.

Interestingly enough, my buddy actually went off on a rant that night. He was complaining about all the alignments he has had to fix for other techs that couldn't get it right on 4x4's. According to him, most of the time these vehicles had just been lifted by the other techs, the first thing he would do is loosen all the suspension hardware, lower the vehicle, set & bounce the suspension, than proceed to torque everything with the vehicle on the ground. This would supposedly fix a majority of the alignemnt/driveability issues that he encountered in 4x4's. I made sure to file this technique away in the gray matter.
Where you using OEM bushings from @cruiseroutfit (and if you have any info on them that would be awesome) or their own brand? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on them

Let me start off by saying yes, I know how to use the search function and yes I know that my OEM Toyota bushing lasted 20+years.

Most of the posts from guys posting using aftermarket bushings end with "I can't believe your such a stupid piece of $hit, even your whore mother knows to only use OEM bushings". Or "Of course they still look new it has only been 6 months you sorry excuse for a human being, your mother should have swallowed you"
Please leave your keyboard warrior comments for the general forums when someone makes a comment about politics.
Spent some time asking questions on Pirate? I mean, there are only like 2 guys i know of on here who act like that.

On the Bushing topic though, I don't know of any other manufacturer who uses rubber/epdm rubber but I do know that poly bushings no matter the make don't seem to last as long as the Toyota rubber. I'm thinking it is simply that, the difference between poly and rubber.

Poly bushings are crap for the most part in my opinion. Worse NVH than rubber, no torsion spring effect, and restricted articulation. They're primarily used because it's an easier material to manufacture new bushings out of and their typical 2-piece configuration simplifies installation.

I don't know about the original bushings but I installed the yellow old man emu castor correction bushings 4 years ago and about 30k miles later they are completely demolished and my control arm is bouncing around in there. Its horrible, and Im replacing them now. Can we have AI read this thread and summarize what info you can get from all these posts?

Get oem: replace less often, pay more for bushing

Get aftermarket: replace more often, pay less for bushing

That’s literally the whole thread

I should explain that Downey is an additive as opposed to the approved fluid you use.....:whoops:

Usually a tablespoon or so is all that is needed.

Nine pages of it. Secret Japanese rubbers and OME over and over.
