Talk about a GREAT week - had a 14 hr day last Friday going to look at and drag home a 74 FJ40, and then I get notification my '19 grey LC has arrived at the dealership

TIme for the extensive list of mods for the 200, and continue shopping for my new drivetrain for the FJ40 (cant decide between LS3 and LQ9).

Brown Santa (ie UPS) is going to be hating me for the next several months ;-)

Nice!

Consider L92 for your 40. Still aluminum block, 403hp but more midrange than the LS3, and lower compression so you don’t have to run premium. Had one in my 80 in front of a 6L80 and it was ****ing fantastic.

PM me if you have any questions on the setup.. in case this thread is just about your new 200!

Congrats! What mods are you thinking of doing?

My 200 will be the "Jack of all trades-go anywhere truck." Currently at the shop for the PFF and ceramic window tint, followed by painting all chrome and smoking the head and tail lamps. Then...

  • OME BP-51 Suspension - medium springs up front/heavy in back
  • SPC UCA’s
  • BFG KO’s in 305/65-18’s (biggest I can run AND fit in stock spare location while I figure out what to do in back)
  • TRD BBS Forged wheels
  • ARB Bullbar with Warn 12k and Baja LP9’s
  • Front Runner Slimline II - trying to fit a Gobi ladder with it
  • Baja 40” Amber/White bar on roof rack
  • ARB Safari Snorkel
  • BudBuilt Sliders and skid plates
  • 12.5gal LRA Aux Tank
  • ARB’s and 4.88 Nitro gears Front & Rear
  • ARB Dual Compressor
  • Dual Odyssey Battery’s controlled by Rearc DCDC
  • Rock lights – also act as puddle lamps
  • USB’s upgraded/rewired for 4.8V

Thinking I’m going to use SDHQ’s dash panel to mount a Switch Pros to control my various added circuits. Will evaluate adding the ditch light brackets from SDHQ with some more ambers if I find I’m wanting anything extra. Seriously considering either Total Chaos or Icon for upper/lower rear arms. Lastly for a rear bumper, I’m going to wait for Slee to finish theirs and compare it to the other 2 out there, but not rushing into anything yet.

The FJ40 will be a more purpose built truck for rock crawling (my home is only 25 minutes to the Rubicon trail head). Still figuring it all out, but Chevy V8, NV4500, Atlas (maybe), Discs and ARB's F&R, SOA, PS, paint...etc

  • ARB’s and 4.88 Nitro gears Front & Rear

I think most outfitters/shops are aware of this now, but I expect you'll need an earlier generation third member to fit the gears and lockers. Just FYI -- looks like a lot of fun in store for this truck :)

Slee's rear is finished. They are very stout.

Also, have you considered a "stroker 3FE" for your 40-series?

Wow, that’s gonna be a hell of a truck! You could go slightly larger with the wheels in regards to the underbody storage. People say 34” work, your at 33.6” with 305/65r18. Love those bbs wheels tho

The gears and locker are being installed by Eric Sarjeant's guys at Ed Martin Toyota. Not his first 2019 build up for a customer, so I'm guessing he has the BTDT approach ;-)

Be interesting to see it and what Slee is going to charge. Had one of his rear bumpers for my old '97 FZJ80 and loved it. The C4 Fab one I had on the 4Runner I just sold was good looking but squeaked horribly and the the latch mechanism didn't line up correctly.

As to the 3FE...was never overly impressed with the engine in my 80 series - so much so that I added the TRD blower to get the power ad torque up. The Chevy V8 just seems too easy...until I add in the Atlas and have to start figuring out the rear axle.

@nor_cal_cyclist Dont forget to support your Local California Small Business!

@benc Does some GREAT work for the 200 series. @mrburlingame and @fireball (and others I am sure I am missing) have some awesome builds with Dissent Offroad products!

@TRAIL TAILOR has some 200 series UCA's that are the talk of the town!

Congratulations. Eric is great to work with. I think you might have seen mine just before I picked it up and drove it home. I wish I was out where you are. Lots of great options to have your rig worked on.

not sure if Eric's people are aware of this, but no ARB exist yet for the front of the 2016+ There are some things one can do if you really want it.

Good Choice.

All that, just to go to the mall?! :p

That truck is beautiful!

Spending over 2/3 of my time up around Tahoe...not sure even this build would have got me to the mall this past winter. Heck, just getting back home from Northstar was a challenge several days, and I'm like 15mins away if roads are dry. ;)

You might reconsider the SPC control arms @nor_cal_cyclist thread on the 100 forum showing a terrible Chinese weld breaking. Disturbing part is SPC would not make good on it. Thread: SPC UCA failure

For the record we sell 100's of those arms and the arm breaking is a very isolated case. I would like to see why SPC denied the claim. They are a pretty good company with good support. The tread does not cover why they denied the claim.

Also who determined it was a "terrible Chinese weld"?

I spoke to Eric yesterday, and he has indeed set up 2 other 16+ LC's with a front locker. I believe the ARB works with a special order part from Nitro to set it all up correctly.

Also - just back from the tint and PFF shop - chrome "deleted" for a slightly different look than most.

Perhaps you should read the thread I posted for more information and pictures of the weld. As far as specific questions @D_Web is the one with the reported failure and poor customer service. I would have no doubt that Slee gets top notch service from SPC, but it appears some individual mud members have not. I am in the market for some arms myself, and am glad this was reported. I will say Slee is the authority on Cruisers, and would love your opinion of the break and customer service reported.

I will post my view in that thread. I don't want to pollute this. I did read the whole tread. It is just amazing to me that people jump to conclusions of bad customer service when they don't even have all the facts or might not understand technically what happened. It seems the internet mob is pretty quick to try and crucify companies and products.
