Hi all, just wondering where the 70 series has been continually available in Left hand drive version?
I think all Central American countries offered left hand drive, but what about other markets? Were they only ever available with the 1hz up until present?
BJ73 was built in Portugal with the VM diesel engine for the Portugal and Spain markets in the 1980s and 90s. They were also available in Portugal with the 3B engine. They are apparently building the 70 series again in Portugal for the South African market
probably south Europe, but Euro can be pretty high, don't know what it is right now. Don't have any idea about searching middle east countries. South/Central America usually have lived hard lives and I think most are gassers, and seems like a lot of them don't have A/C or heaters, or just A/C. There are some neat looking BJ-70/71 (some with lockers front and rear) and HZJ-70/73 in Italy, but you would probably have to ship them to Amsterdam or other northern harbors to put on a boat. Lots of logistics involved.

I had a web site for a used cars site in Colombia but can't find it now ?

As coldtaco says, it's not only Central America but also South American markets where LHD 70 series are found. Dunno, but some of the Venezuelan "Machos" look pretty good. Columbia has them too. They do seem to be mostly gassers, which isn't a bad thing in my book. More parts availability and power to be found with the FZ engine. Carros Toyota Macho - Carros, Motos y Otros en TuCarro
I think Rosco had the best point that you really want to focus on what the maintenance culture is where you are buying it. There are a ton of 70 series in Nigeria where I'm at, and Africa in general, but finding a "clean" one is the hard part. Here they use them as hard as humanly possible and then also dont take care of them at all.

This is generally true from what I have seen living here in Spain for the last 2 years.
There are many more VMJ73s than 3B powered 73s here. The LJ7Xs are much more prevalent here, but I'm not going to open that .
Vast majority are rode hard and put away wet (Cruisers/Defenders/Discos in general here). A large agricultural based society that sees a lot of farm use or highly modified vehicles taken to Morocco and Africa beyond. There are gems out there on occasion but priced to the point that I would rather look at a professional importer than importing myself.
The good news is that there are plenty of Land Rovers and Santanas here and most people go after those. The Cruisers usually fly under the radar. I watched my BJ73 in the classifieds for 7-8 months before I purchased it.
In Mongolia we get brand new LHD models with either 1HZ or the 1GR. 76 Wagon, 78 troopy and the 79 pickup both single and double cab versions. They are General Spec vehicles with Cold Area package such as heated fuel filter, dual batteries, more powerful starter and so on.
