When your coolant is low and you see this, what are your thoughts?

Is that coming out of the top of the thermostat housing? Bad gasket? How many miles since pump was changed?

pump was never changed. Still original. No idea where its coming from. 140k miles

I’m trying to orient myself to where that picture is taken. Can you zoom out?

i have it put back together now, basically right behind the oil filter cannister

Gotcha. So we’re looking up. The thermostat is on the PS and oil filter is DS so it’s not coming from there. I’d suspect maybe an aggressive leak at the water pump or a bad hose connection. At 140k you’re due for a water pump anyway. That job will require disassembly of the front which will expose the source more clearly.

It looks like the alternator to the upper left. Assuming this picture is taken from underneath, that would be the US passenger side.

You should be able to track it down, but a thermostat/water pump, idler, serpentine belt service might be worthwhile at your mileage. Also inspect the radiator for cracks while you're there.

Oh, and "while you are in there" replace the plastic Tees in the hoses at the back of the engine with metal ones. I did it as PM, since the ones on prior cruisers the plastic failed from heat.

Could it be the dreaded heat exchanger seal? If you can peek between the intake manifold and the top of your engine there is a small opening on the front driver side. This happened to me. here is a photo looking up from the rear of the engine on the passenger side.

Heater t’s are overkill. I went in to do mine at 140k and they were as though they had just come out of the mold. Looked brand new.

All the rest.. yes.

And I replaced my tees with OEM plastic. I tried the Dorman metal ones but they were not the correct fit to the hose and I hate to half ass stuff like that.

Have any 200 tees failed in the field like were a problem on the 100?

it was the water pump. Nice $1000CAD outing. Did the tensioner, belt and the thermostat too. I guess I am glad I caught it as with hose engine covers on i dont see the coolant level usually. Thanks gents. That was an expensive oil change. Tees looked new.
