What yr 40 do you have?

My 40 began life in 1968. We had a SBC 350 conversion done on it in the early to mid 1970s. It was probably in the 1990s that I switched from the stock toyota gauges to Stewart Warner ones. At that time it was necessary to switch out the fuel sending unit. The truck sat unused from 2010 until recently. As part of the process of bringing the vehicle back to life, I found it necessary to replace the sending unit. This is the one that I am having difficulty getting it to seal......

Can you fit/make new holes in new sender to ditch the adapter and match the JIS pattern ? Clean both surfaces, assemble dry with good rubber gasket, snug it up gently and evenly, if it persists to seep I would then try the sealant mentioned previously. If the metal of the new sender is thin and wants to distort as it compresses the rubber gasket I would make a ring as opposed to adding washers if that makes sense, although adding flat washers may work fine if it is distorting.

Apparently, there are reports where guys have "wallowed out" the holes in the sender to fit the stock pattern. I will check how much of that needs to be done to make things work.....
I’m one of those guys. Check out my post here-

I’d take off that adapter and just mount to the tank
