So... just tossing an idea out there...

While not as exotic as Mexico or Alaska, would anyone be interested in an Eastern Sierra/Inyo Mountains/Death Valley focused trip? I'm thinking something like a Saturday-Saturday "Grand Tour" of the Death Valley vicinity. Timing-wise, I'd recommend mid-March to mid-May. Cruise Moab is 4/30 - 5/5 and OE West is 5/17 - 5/19.

That's a good amount of time to experience the Inyo Mountains, Eureka Sand Dunes, Hunter Mountain and Racetrack Playa, Saline Valley, Mengel Pass and the Panamints, desert canyons (Marble/Cottonwood), the Coso Wilderness, plus all the regular attractions/sites near pavement. The path would likely route us near gas (expensive) every couple days and is completely suitable for stock vehicles with AT tires. There'd probably also be time for obligatory Instagram photos at Alabama Hills and/or a Sierra run depending on snow and timing.
I'm definitely in, love that area

@indycole March-April is out for me, but after Cruise Moab might work. No Bindi this time. :)

I would consider it but I’m a newbie to wheeling. Does it help that I have 2 Land Cruisers?

I wouldn't discourage folks on the basis of being new to wheeling. However, I do recommend you consider all the factors of a remote, extended camping trip. People need to be relatively self-sufficient and to have the know-how, willingness, means, etc. to pack out everything they bring in.

Also, it's worth noting that this is all conceptual for now. If this happens and we get to specifics, there will likely be a short list of requirements for people to join.

Sure does it means you have to bring 2x the adult beverages

Absolutely!

Thanks indycoyle -

I think I can check all those boxes, more concerned about skill level. I’ve lived out of my truck several times in Big Bend ... hell its cleaner than many of the local motels.

I’m not new to desert off roading but this trip will probably be the shakedown run for the new build

In. Love the roundabouts on this thread. Partial to exploring more of Baja but also down for a SW desert trip.
I haven't looked back on this thread or any other trail related threads to see if this has been mentioned yet...but have any of you looked at or done the Arizona Peace Trail? I've done the southern portion and it's a hoot:)

This area is quite unique in that it has the highest point in lower 48 (Mt. Whitney), lowest point in NA (Badwater), and perhaps the oldest living thing (Bristle Cone Pine trees)

Haven't but that's a trip I've been looking to do too. Plus it's between us, maybe squeeze it in between one of these big trips being discussed. Wish I had all the time in the world to take trips like this... sigh...

I never did get to go see the oldest bristlecone last time I was near lone pine/big pine. That’d be cool.
