"LC based on the Tundra"

I think the stronger/annoyed reactions here happen for a pretty straight forward reason:

The modern LC is rarely understood by the general public. If anything, if tends to be written off as the sad remnant ghost of a lost legend that no longer exists...because it does NOT look like what it actually is underneath.

So... When these things come along to MAYBE scratch below the facade surface and see the beast...but then they don’t...it’s disappointing, and further solidified misconceptions.

No big deal.
Just standard fare for the LC.
It would just be nice if the misconceptions weren’t underscored...again. These guys just add to the confusion.

But meh... I actually don’t mind being asked about my “Highlander.” :hillbilly:

Heh, these posts help validate elitist stereotypes concerning rabid marque fans.

Far from elitist, but perhaps we have a stronger desire to factually correct and accurate than most? I'm only speaking for myself here, but I have a Toyota, Honda and a Tesla in the driveway. I've owned a lot of things in the past, and of all the brands I've owned I've had the most Jeeps and Audis and Toyotas are at the bottom of my list. I'm no "rabid marque fan", and if that's directed at me, you couldn't be more wrong. I think the 200 is great, but it is not without flaws - I can name a big list and have actually. I take issue with people who have a platform to reach hundreds of thousands of people and continually spread misinformation. If someone is reviewing a press car, I get they can't know everything about it, but if you buy a car and have it in your fleet to make many videos about it, get your facts straight!

Couldn't be more coincidental timing actually for this conversation. Today I went to Slee for a cool open house/garage sale, and a few people wanted to see my front Rhino bumper. I had 2 guys separately ask me about the 200 because they we either considering one or just wanted to learn more. The first guy said "this has the V6 from the 4runner right?" and was shocked when I said it has the 5.7. The next guy said "I just learned it this is the SUV version of the Tundra that's pretty sweet!". I didn't ask where he heard it from, but it could have easily been TFL. They both had lots and lots of questions about it and honestly knew nothing about the 200...and this is in one of the Land Cruiser capitals of North America...at Slee...and they both own built Toyotas (GX470 and a 3rd gen T4R). I'm not exaggerating or making this up - literally just happened 3 hours ago. If these guys didn't know anything about the 200, imagine what the average TFL owner knows about it.

LOL... Yesterday, I went to one of our premium car wash places... I told the dude you pay, I had a lot of baked on bugs so the pre-wash guys could hit the spots extra hard before the car wash itself... The dudes have two ways head sets... He radioed the other dudes, "the white highlander has a lot of bugs"... I didn't say a word just rolled my $80k highlander into the carwash... It took two cycles through to get most of the bugs off BTW... I like rolling low profile, 95% of the people haven't a clue what the LC is... On the other hand I have a NSX that is not low profile and driving it is like riding a unicorn through an amusement park... Luckily, it's not a daily driver...

Yeah that kinda illustrates my point...

Part of the charm of the LC is that most people don't know what it is... They think it's a Highlander or a Rav4 or 4Runner or whatever. I like that. So the fact that some dudes on YouTube say that it's based on the Tundra makes absolutely ZERO difference to anything that is meaningful in my life or anyone else's. Those guys most likely got that impression from somewhere else. So what if someone thinks it's based on the Tundra... Hell that probably gives people a positive view of the LC if anything. I actually did a Google search on 'is land Cruiser based on Tundra' just to see what popped up and more than 50% of the responses said that it was. So what?
So why worry about it/bash the guys that actually notice the vehicle is gaining popularity and had the foresight to realize making videos of it would get some views when everyone else is still making more Jeep videos?
I'm glad they decided to make a series about the 200 even if some of their facts after wrong or they chose a goofy color for their wrap.
One more thing... Calling this "misinformation" almost has the connotation that this is somehow important information. Like the word "misinformation" refers to things that actually have an impact on ones life... Whether the LC is based on another vehicle or is totally unique is totally, completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things. I'm just glad to have some 200 related content to watch and really don't care if some of the comments they make aren't 100% factual... Not like they said the Land Cruiser was based on the Jeep or anything.... LMAO

To be fair they crashed the LC into the garage too. But they only needed a new mirror and it didn't put the LC out of commission.
I think they need a wider garage door. Or better habit of folding in the mirrors.

Tesla vs Garage = Garage Wins! :bang:
LC vs Garage = LC Wins! :bounce:

Glad you can relate because you put some fancy velcro and a few hundred screws in your interior. :hillbilly:
I happen to like modding my stuff to be more refined.

???

:meh:

Bizarro...

Seriously Mark. Just do your thing and enjoy your hobby. You don't need to be posting childish remarks because someone else might have a different opinion and doesn't spend 100% of their time on their 200-series and this forum.

You just posted your Porsche to somehow prove I’m less refined than you. But I’m childish for shrugging my shoulders.
Mmmkay.

:meh:

Cool Porsche by the way!

On a happier note... Here is an interesting video that actually attempts to understand and convey what the Land Cruiser is. Shot in my town... Wondering who this one belongs to...

No video is perfect, but this guy is really attempting to wrap folk’s heads around this mysterious LC we love.

Hey, I’m no engineer but sure seems those two are Velcro’d together. 😁

OK. Can I be hook side tho...?
I’m not that loopy...
:rimshot:

But meh....
Its curtains for this show.
after 10 years...only 2 on my ignore list.
And then there were 3.
Adieu.

OK, OK, OK …

If any of you are bored, the TFL guys posted an update to their 2008 Land Cruiser's progress on its TRD Pro conversion...

They wrapped it in white vinyl with black trim...

A lot of work goes into wrapping a vehicle correctly... impressive...

EASY $$$$$... Interesting to see Toyoda happily selling their "TRD Pro" emblems to anyone...

So every Tacoma, 4 Runner and Tundra owner can up grade to a TRD Pro now for just $100.00 per side... LOL!!!!

Next week, TRD Pro wheels (provided free to them by Toyoda, must be nice) and a 2" FOX lift, it sounds like to me...

Jeff

The grill is wrong. All the others "PRO" grills have body color surround and they just dipped the whole thing. Looks like a high school kid "modded" his dads car. Also the door moldings being black is weird looking. I'm knit picking but these are just things I would have done different. It does look like the wrap was done well, less skipping the sills. I think these guys are entertaining but have notice misinfo on cars i'm more familiar with. I suppose there could be more I don't notice. The ike gauntlet is a good comparision though, and will always watch those.

They put up another video on the LC.... when they get to the tires part its entertaining. Apparently a 285 will rub on the lift so they are doing a 265/75 and that way they'll get more width.... :bang:

Free forged wheels are nice... perks of the job.

265s are an interesting choice. The 75 profile should be good but those are 20mm narrower than stock. Will definitely drive different.

I don't agree with dropping big money on a full vinyl wrap. It is a PITA to repair. Every vinyl wrapped car I've seen also becomes a dust magnet after a few years. Can't beat the depth and repairability of paint.

Well... the video tells a different story. They went with LT275/70R18 KO2's which seems like a pretty good choice to me. And in all fairness, the guy who said "width" probably meant sidewall height - I'd give it to him on that one.

Here's a screen grab from the video showing the LT275/70R18 sizing:
