So I've been working on a set of front brakes along the lines of my 16" rim brakes.
These brakes use a 14" wilwood Rotor with the caliper from a 200 series Land Cruiser
This is a completely bolt on system right down to the banjo bolt on the brake caliper.
The rim used to design to is a 17x9 0 offset Raceline Rim. There seems to be room to use a narrower rim but nothing other than the mentioned rim has been verified.
One of the design goals was to use a 17" rim and I run a 35" tire. I wanted the tire's side wall to be as tall as possible and still fit the brakes. The down side of this approach is that the gap between the back of the caliper and that of the rim is rather small. The potential problem comes from stones possibly bouncing up and lodging themselves between the inner surface of the rim and that of the stationary caliper. This can quickly ruin a rim and your day. The obvious solution is a dust shield. Easier said than done as they say. I long gave up looking for a solution to the dust shield issue when by chance I saw a marketplace listing and eventually created an acceptable dust shield.
At this point everything bolts together and fits within the constrains of the 80 series knuckle. The caliper is slightly out of position and a new bracket is in the works. I'm optimistic that I'll have the new brakes mounted and tested nest week. Attached are some pics of the current assembly.
