Hi,

I have reluctantly decided to sell my 1980 BJ44 L-package. It has the original 4 speed, 2B engine and original front and rear bench seats.

I bought it only recently and have driven it on a regular basis. It is in excellent mechanical condition with no leaks, strong clutch and new exhaust.

It has a clean New York title. I'll post pictures and video soon.

Text me if you would like to test drive it. I'm located in NYC.

Sorry about that. I finally got a day off today and it's raining!!!

I've taken quick videos and some pictures and they're also in the Craigslist ad as I wasn't able to upload them all here.

Details:

The BJ44 was only sold to the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) and was sporadically imported to Russia, Australia and New Zealand.

BJ44V is the first Landcruiser with a rear seat facing forward. The BJ44V is the hardtop medium wheelbase version of the BJ40 which itself is the diesel version of the FJ40. At 97”, the wheelbase is approximately 7” longer than a comparable FJ40. In total the BJ44 is approximately 14” longer than a FJ40. The BJ44V was produced from 1980 until 1982. Which makes for a very short production run for the long running 40 series. Combine this rarity with the L-Package with which this truck is equipped and includes such items as the chrome (currently white)/grille, rear bumpers and license plate light covers, extremely rare 2-tone cloth vinyl ivory interior with front buckets and center console with rear heat and FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING!!
  • LIMITED production between 1980-1982.
  • 114,996 (183,995km) original miles!
  • Forward facing folding bench seat.
  • Rare factory spec L-Package.
  • Front disc brakes.
  • Ivory Fabric/Vinyl Seats.
  • Factory A/C
  • Front and rear heat
  • All original tan factory matting.
  • All original glass with etching. Seals are in good condition.
  • No leaks.
  • 2B 3.2l diesel.
  • Hoses and plastics under hood are in good condition.
  • 4 speed manual transmission with hi/lo shifter.
  • Late model sliding side windows.
  • Original jack and tools included.
  • Original Aisin locking front hubs.
  • Pintle type tow hitch.
  • Ambulance style rear doors.
  • Removable/convertible hardtop.
  • Windshield folds flat.
  • New batteries
Engine:
2B Diesel engine. The 2B is a 3.2 L inline 4 Cylinder, eight valve OHV Diesel engine Compression Ratio is 21:1. Output is 93 hp (69 kW) at 2200 rpm with 159 ft·lbf (215 N·m) of torque at 2200 rpm

Upcoming maintenance which will be performed before the truck goes to the new buyer:

New OEM glow plugs
New OEM fuel filter
Valve adjustment
New OEM valve cover gasket
New OEM oil filter
All fluids flushed and renewed.

Rare Factory Air Conditioning, this is currently not cooling and I have not gone through to find out what the issue is.

Front disk brakes, rear drum brakes with emergency brake built in. Factory Brake Booster, Factory Clutch Booster, working vacuum actuated 4wd system. 24V heavy duty electrical system, brighter lights, less amp load.

Please note that this vehicle has an extremely clean frame, axles and drivetrain but does need a new headliner and eventually the rain gutter. As far as rust, I'm unable to locate any but there might be some areas which may require work in the future. Currently all areas are sealed and there are no issues. This BJ44 handles great and drives strong.

Comes with the Clean & Lien-free New York State title.

This vehicle is sold “as is”. All required customs, EPA & DOT forms will be provided along with a bill of sale.

$19,900

Text to test drive this amazing BJ44!

Just watched video- and while it appears you have disposed of any bodies that may or may not have been inside this vehicle......its hard to see much but blackness underneath and inside due to suboptimal lighting conditions on a wonderfully nice new york grey day. :)

any pics of underneath? frame and body crossmember/ channels?

Lol, yeah I know that was an issue but I will get pictures Saturday since it's the only time I get home during daylight.

i think it may have been the black gloves and tan trench coat in the vids......from the get go i was riveted to see if an arm or other body part fell out from under a seat. The vid had sort of a Stephen King / Cape Fear / Sopranos type dark aura to it. :)

Nicer than mine. Price seems fair GLWS.

Update: The BJ44 was just serviced, new oil change using OEM oil filter and OEM fuel filter, new OEM glow plugs installed and differential fluids all checked and in very good condition.

The BJ44 runs very smooth after the service. The glow plug indicator switches ON within 15 seconds and BJ44 starts up even on a cold December morning here in NYC.

The brake system is in very good shape and the BJ44 stops on a dime!

The A/C system was diagnosed and it just needs a new compressor, and I have already located a OEM Reman unit.

The 4x4 system is fully functional-just pull the F.D (Front Drive) switch, it lights up and 4WD engages smoothly. Just tested it today in NYC's first snow storm this year.

I have already purchased a new off-white perforated headliner with thick foam backing. This will be included in the sale.

The BJ44 also was checked out at a respected auto body shop in NYC area for complete restoration estimate: The BJ44 is in good shape, with a clean undercarriage/frame. For estimate total, please call/text me.

Mechanically, the BJ44 is in excellent condition, strong engine and clutch, does not leak oil and rides/handles much better than the SWB 40 series.

Call/text me for more details: 63I.603.97I6.

Thanks for looking! :)

Can anyone confirm if the asking price is within the fair market value for this? It's so hard to find any references online to the BJ44 L. They are pretty scarce.

scarcity is the word that tends to drive the price. couple that with a lack of rust and you are easily looking at rigs from $15k-$40k. so not much help.....but considering a similar condition 40 series can easily fetch $10-15k in todays market- im guessing for someone wanting a longer wheelbase- more interior room and a diesel engine you could easily see where $13k-$20k isnt too far fetched.
