Im looking at a 94 yota single cab 4x4 with a 22rte motor in it, but the guy says it lacks power. Starts and idles fine but doesnt seem to have the power it should. First thought is turbo... what else could it be?

Also, if it is the turbo, how much do good used ones cost for this motor? What kind of flange is it? Would a stock 90-94 eagle talon/mitsu eclipse turbo(14b) fit?

have you driven it, is it a auto or is it a stick?

not that it pertains to your problem, but i had a guy give me a mazda 323 he said that it had a bad engine problem cause it had no power, turns out the clutch was bad.

No i havent driven it. Its 4hrs away so im trying to diagnose it the hard way, lol. It is 5spd. And i never thought bout the clutch, thats a possibility.

Stock turbos are expensive. Doesn't matter if they are new or used. If it turns out it is the turbo, your money will be better spent on a different turbo. I was in a situation like that and i'm still trying to get the lid back on the can of worms I opened.

But when you get the 22rte's running well, they are pretty sweet.

Being a 94 means it's a transplant?

What it sounds like to me is the turbo isn't building pressure (a very common issue with the stock turbo). What happens is the housing cracks inhibiting the turbo from ever building pressure leaving you with an extremely low compression engine.

Yeah its been swapped.

Timing chain off a tooth...

Yeah thats the hard part is trying to figure out if its something simple and cheap or not worth my time, without actually being by the truck, haha.

I say turbo, too if it starts & idles fine.

If you have a new Turbo in mind when you buy it & the price is right, I say go for it
turbo trucks are very rare, nay unheard of around the mid west
I have only ever seen 1 in person

Cool factor = 10+
