Spent a fair amount of time trying to find a reputable CO2 tank re-filler here in the KC Metro. After a fun drive to the only one I was aware of (Matheson off Front Street), I dug a little deeper. Turns out Cintas in Lenexa will fill up your tank for $20:

Cintas Fire Protection
10060 Lackman Rd
Lenexa, KS 66219

If you live closer to the river, Matheson is your best bet. $15:

Matheson
6000 Front St
Kansas City, MO 64120

Both will fill up your 10lb CO2 tank while you wait. Cintas will happily sell you an automotive fire extinguisher as well.

I'm loving my Power Tank!

How many fill ups do you get out of your tank? I run 44 on the highway and air down to around 18. I need to come up with something better. Last month when I was in Colorado I aired down and up at least 6 times and it was a long process with my cheap little compressor.

For reference my father in law runs an identical '94 FZJ80 with 35's and goes down to 15 from 35 (his is strictly an off-road, trail/pass vehicle stored in CO). I have 33's and go down to 20 from 40. Same drop of 20 though. He has had his Power Tank for a lot longer than me and estimates a total of sixty tire reinflates per 10lb tank fill.

It takes less then five minutes to fill all four if you do it right. For this trip, one person would get out and pull the stems while the other went around refilling. It goes so fast you have to be careful to not over-inflate.

I hesitated for months before pulling the plug on the PT. I'm now very glad I did so.

Swap tanks if outdated at hoenschild welding 20# for about $23. Refil off noland road if within test date for about $17 at mh gas. I dont mess with getting them hydrotested. But using 20# tanks for welder and kegerator. On board air on truck. Did they ask u if it was within test date?

I have a few aluminum air tanks that firefighters would wear on their backs. Would like to convert one to a airtank for CO2 purposes. Anyone know where I could get the parts for this swap?

I was thinking about the same thing. I will do some looking into it and see what I find.

I could ask our SCBA tech when I get back off of 4 day. He will know what thread sizes you need to convert. I know we've used them at the station to fill truck tires since the regular air comp can't get them up to 150psi. What brand are the bottles.

I think Kelly has some of the old Scott 2216's. I have a Scott 4500.

Yeah, I think the carbon fiber 4500's would be a lot better. Lighter and double the fill pressure. Probably lake you about 3 seconds to fill up a tire with one of those ;) I will find out what fittings we used last time we aired up the ladder truck. I seem to recall some stuff coming off of the rescue and getting adapted down to a normal air chuck.

I could get 3 more bottles for about $50 each if anyone else wants to make one.

I would make sure u can fill those. I normally dont pay more than fifty for a co2 tank. Just sayin.

Good point. These are aluminum tanks, so likely will need to get tested again before they will fill them.

These are bigger than your little metal co2 tanks. About 2 foot long and aluminum, so lightweight.

I bought them for onboard air tanks, but think it would be more useful to have one set up for CO2 to run air tools and fill tires.

Im set for my tanks. Two spares right now and one other on the welder. Think I spent $25 each tank? We used to get regulators from Williams balloon or something like that.

I pulled out one of the scott air system delivery regulator things last night. wondering if we can take these apart and somehow use them to regulate the airflow. Just need it to push 40psi for inflating tires.

Any word from the SCBA tech?

If we can get the fittings figured out I'm in on one of those tanks.

Oh, one has your name on it already. After taking 20 minutes with 3 little compressors to air up Boost, I figure it is time to step up.
