Decided to try the SEM color coat product so I figured I’d share the results.

First cleaned the pads with some dish soap and warm water. They absorbed a lot of the soap so it required a ton of rinsing.

Let them dry in the sun for a day and a half.

Applied three light coats of the SEM satin black.

Results are meh. I didn’t expect them to look new and they are definitely much better but still good from far, far from good.

Anyone else refurbish these. What did you do? How did yours turn out?

Lastly, plated the hardware. Missing two of the little screws. If anyone in the Puget Sound area has retired their roll bar and are willing to part with them the id buy them or buy you beer.

I think both the pads and plating look great. Maybe consider pressure or vacuum forming some really thin wet black leather to the pieces. When you get it formed completely and dried you then bond it in place with rubber cement and then finally trim it.

Scotty Kilmer had some product that did wonders on like black trim
