Building a home made roof rack (I'm cheap and have an expert welder who owes me) I've built a bunch for other vehicles but never had one that needed to mount to a gutter.

is there someone who sells the just the gutter attachement? I have a yakima one that came with the truck but they're so big and bulky. I'm interested in something like how Hannibal connects their roof rack.

Any suggestions?

You're not going to find much more elegant ones than Yakima rain gutter towers, unless you just mean they'r too tall.

SOR sells some - pages 256 and 257:

The ConFerr clamps are very strong but very big and heavy. The smallest ones look like this:

Yakima sells a tower called the 1A custom (or something like that) it has a flat top with a bolt hole specifically designed for those building their own racks.

Ooh thanks! That top SOR model will work perfectly. thanks again!

I just finsihed making my own, THey were simple. If you want the plans private message me.

Fawk that overpriced POS SOR stuff....http://everestnews.altrec.com/shop/detail/4386/13 you can't break these. I've tried.

I have those, too--attached them to some square tubing (using large eye-bolts) to make bars. The quick-release feature is great if you're running the truck through a carwash or don't want to make a long highway trip with a rack. Don't have the basket to U-bolt to the bars yet, but if the need arises. . . .

with my Confer rack I have the Confer attachments obviously and as previously stated very strong. I have put several hundered pounds on my rack (ontop of rack weight itself) and it has proven to be very effective and carrying the load.

Go with Quik N Easy from a river outfitter. I coated mine with that spray on rubberizer stuff, so they match my black roof rack. Works great.

xrok just bought a old used set of ez's from me, and that is what I told him was why I took them off of my truck. Too much space between the roof and the bottom of the rack. You could build the rack such that it was lower if you were doing custom.

I have another set of 4 ez towers to sell if somebody wants them. PM me.

The height doesn't bother me because I'll just add tabs to the roof rack so it still sits right off roof. I don't like it when it sits way off either.

Thanks to Euclid for the hookup!

I got a set of 4" quick N easy brackets. I actually had to add a couple of washers for spacers to keep the rack from rubbing the center of the roof. But I like the low profile much better than the really tall towers.

I have used Quick N Easy brackets and racks for years. They are very strong, and lower priced than any other bracket. They are made in America! All the canoe and raft people use these as they are better than Yakima or Thule, and cost less.

Go to Northwest River Systems These guys are great - I own one of their rafts - and the price can't be beat.
