Hey 100 series crew!
Ever since I started wheeling, I've been thinking about where I wanted to stash a fire extinguisher. My very first trip out (Cruisers in the Rocks IV in October 2024), we passed the burnt-out husk of a side-by-side that had caught fire on the trail - I realized then that I needed to keep an extinguisher in the truck, and that I needed to keep it somewhere with quick access.
A 2.5lb extinguisher only has ~10 seconds worth of spray time, so you need to be able to react fast to put something out before it's too late.
After some thought, the front of the seats seemed like an idea position - very quick to access, but if done correctly, entirely unobtrusive & out of the way. The same system could be used to mount other things (radios, water bottle holders, etc) as well if designed properly. After a quick search, I saw that others had done this to an extent, but not in the way that I really wanted.
Enter the Lumberjack Engineering seat front accessory mount system for the 1998-2007 Landcruiser/LX470:
It utilizes a pair of engineered brackets printed from glass-fiber reinforced ASA, and a CNC-cut 12 gauge steel panel. The panel has an array of 1/4" slots on its face, allowing a wide range of things to be mmounted onto the front of it - like a 2.5lb fire extinguisher:
The brackets attach to the front of the seat rails & "lock-in" around the inverted "U" shape the rails make, and get retained with a M5 shoulder bolt. The brackets have M6 locknuts inserted from the backside, and the panel is attached via 4x low-profile M6 socket head cap screws.
Below is my driving position - my legs are nowhere near the extinguisher, and it's entirely unnoticeable. I had multiple people sit in my truck a couple weeks ago at COTR V, and everyone said the exact same thing - no interference to the person in the seat. I have seat jackers installed on my driver's seat, but testing it on the passanger side yielded the exact same thing. That's right - you can put it on either side of the truck! (or get two)
There's also no interference to the seat itself - you can still move the seat front up/down and move the entire seat forward/back etc without any issues. Because the brackets attach to the front of the moving portion of the rails, the panel (and anything attached to it) moves forward/backward with you - so whatever you've got mounted up is always in the perfect position.
These are available over at The Artisan Garage now - the kit includes the stainless hardware required to mount it to the vehicle. Additional hardware (1/4" or M6) to mount accessories to the panel is not included, but that's all easy to get just about anywhere. The panel is unfinished 12 gauge steel in order to keep costs down, so a quick wipe down with a degreaser & coat of paint wouldn't hurt.
@MongooseGA is the one who is doing the CNC plasma cutting for the panels, and he's also packaging everything up there in Georgia and shipping them out to folks. It's been a blast working with him on products for TAG, and I can't wait as he brings more vendors to the site.
We normally keep our products in our respective threads, but I really think everyone should carry an extinguisher, so here your PSA. I keep a PurpleK extinguisher up here and an ABC in the back, but everyone should do their own research.
I will say that from the light research I've done, the element extinguishers aren't nearly as effective as these "old-school" canister extinguishers, so there's that to keep in mind.
I also did a "quick" video on the install process - it'll legitimately take you three minutes to install, but I always get asked for a video so here it is in all of its glory, haha:
Let us know if you have any questions! Excited to get these out in the world.
