Under the vehicle performing some PM and while coating the KDSS valves I noticed it looks like the hex heads have been replaced with 8mm ish screw heads for 2019.

WOW, about time! that's awesome!

Yeah, this is much better hardware. I would assume these have a part number and would be direct replacements. Would be a mess to replace, but something to consider if you ever have to replace corroded hex heads.

I think the 2018's have this as well.

Coating is obviously still very important but I agree.. huge improvement.

For those living in rust states.. I’d coat the whole KDSS valve body and the lines going into it. I forget who but someone posted a picture of their valve block and the entire thing was corroded badly, not just the bottom exposed face.

Seems to me a bit harder to count your turns with a socket covering the head... hopefully they also put a capture in there for that.

Also seems a bit prone to being rounded off? Time will tell!

Six half turns should be easy to count with the ratchet handle itself. And these are very low torque when set up properly. Shouldn’t round at all.. and will definitely better deal with the increased torque if they do happen to get stuck.

If nothing else it’s more material to weld a nut to.

I picked up a 2018 LC 200 last week with 11k miles. It's got 2 bolts as well. It was manufactured 7/18 and sold in 10/18. So vehicle is about ~ 13 months old. Pristine condition with no dents or scratches. Undercarriage looks brand new. Yet, the KDSS is about the only thing underneath showing rust! Crazy.

I'll try and scrub some of the rust off, back out the bolts 3 turns, spray some LPS on and tighten back up. Picked up a gallon of Fluid Film and a sprayer attachment and will give everything a coating in the coming week.

That's crazy, the contrast with how pristine that truck is underneath, yet that valve body is that corroded. You would think that they could at least shoot some paint on it at some point...

It might be a little agricultural, but what if you just covered that whole exposed surface with some good old fashioned multipurpose grease?

So, was this change made in 2016 Then? Does anyone have a 2016 model and see if they have the bolts?

It only took them 19 years to replace those critical, rust-prone screws! :bang: But glad they finally did!

I agree it’s a contrast but I wouldn’t be worried about either of those valves for quite a while.

If you guys are in rust-prone areas don’t just coat the bottom face. Remove the heat/impact shield and get anything that looks like the bottom. There are similar machined but not painted/coated faces further up where the lines and accumulators screw in that can rust as well.
