See--you need a set of these bad boys...maybe I'll put them on the minivan :steer:

I was really going to look at finding a way to get those rims from you when I got back from Houston! Love those rims. Just got your call about the 4runner guy, hope you got your money back out of them. :D

I don't need the rims, I would just like to have the rims :) keep on with your sale, If you still have them when I get back, I will look at selling the spare rims I have and see if I can sell mine to make some money. If you sell them before I get a chance at them, it just wasn't meant to be.

BTW--guy named Dan (line guy for Mountainview Electric) came by to look at them. He fixes up 4-Runners on the side & is talking about building a crawler. Steered him towards our club/site.

Seemed like a good guy--hope we see him on a run.

That truck does look pretty sweet. But wait a minute, lets see a picture of that sweet new drivers door.:bounce:

Haha, the driver's door is not on yet. Didn't have time before the beer took over--I mean before I had to leave for Houston. Justin and I are going to look at DTM (direct to metal, like they paint gas station poles and stairwell handrails) paints VS. one step automotive paints and see which route to go. The new drivers door is white, and as redneck as I have always been, I'm not driving a red truck with a white door. Trying to decide if I want to camo the truck or go with a nice gray color, the nicer paint would require more prep work, and that would defeat my "low budget" motive with this truck. I'm actually over a grand invested now, that really hurts my feelings.

One thing you can do is try to buff off the oxidation and see what the color is like. Then go to an auto paint store (Sherwin Williams for example) and get a single stage custom paint match, not as expensive as it sounds. Then paint your door.

When I got my Mustang it was heavily oxidized. I was able to buff and polish to what you saw Saturday, and that was dirty. Also, the rear driver quarter panel was dented with no air scoop. A buddy of mine and I pulled the dents and repainted the quarter panel only. Didn't notice the paint seam did you? I call it a good 10 foot paint job, looks good from 10 feet.

I can help you shoot it if you want to go that way. May be worth pricing out the paint, won't take much paint to do a door, but they may have a minimum volume.

Would still love to see that truck with a white door:hillbilly:

Dale's paint on N. Circle drive is a great place...they will even find the color code for your Taco and you can paint it red, just like it came off the assembly line.

Thought about buffing the paint out, but I don't want a buildup of waxes that I'll have to remove later to get new paint to stick. I also really, really hate red. My wife and I have a running joke about me always finding a great deal I can't pass up and the dang thing is always RED. She was pleasantly surprised the FJ40 was not red.

I would love to paint that little truck a nice dark gray color and find a way to get those wheels from Doc, that would be slick!

I wouldn't buff and polish either if you are planning to paint the whole thing, I was thinking of a way to minimize your painting and get a good door match. You'll still have to do a lot of prep to paint over the existing. That's what I hate about painting, all the prep...

Yup, all in the prep work. I think paint is a better choice for me right now because of all the rust in smaller spots. That's why I thought about rattle can camo, it really hides the rust and bubbles that shiny paint will bring out, like painting a turd gold. :D
