Junkyard cheat sheet

Always relevant on the fronts, and if you sport the full-floaters on the rear. But in general, a good cautionary note, especially if you even want to rotate your tires (you should, of course).

Know the diameter of the hub, off hand, so we can add that tidbit to this thread?

4.25 inchs or 108mm

Thanks!

and for search purposes:

Chevy rims, 15X8, 6-lugs, center hole not less than 4.25 inches or 108mm are a good replacement rim for Cruisers.

does anyone know of a low profile air intake horn with 3" diameter off of some other vehicle that would fit a 60? i'd like to fab up a high flow air intake system with a big ole cone filter right behind the headlight but can't find anything that fits under the hood

So the cash for clunkers cars are starting to show up in pick-ur-parts yards. Does anyone know what stock vehicles come with 4.88 Ring and Pinion Gears? I have an extra diff and I’d love to swap out the 4.11’s and install 4.88’s for a trail spare.

Cruisers that did you mean??

Don't hold your breath that one will be in a junkyard..

Some older datsun and toyota minitrucks. some Suzuki sidekicks. Some big american trucks. That's about it...

I thought Yukons had 4.88's. I was looking for american SUV's that would have them stock. hmm.

Even then, is the ring gear size going to be the same? Same number of bolts in the carrier? Same dimensions on the pinion for use in the diff housing?

That's why I was asking here. I thought the cruiser gurus might know.

Yukon gear or Chevy Yukon?

Ring and pinions are kind of a specialty thing.. They are not really universal..

If you want 4.88's for your cruiser, you would have to find a clunker that had a lot of mods done to it. Which is not impossible, but pretty damn improbable.

Sounds like I was mistaking the Yukon gears for the actual Yukon SUV... thanks for the clarification.

I remember reading at one point that there was a series of Corolla wagons that used the same exact rear license plate light/trim as the 60/62 series (the one that rots out on the tailgate), but I don't remember the years.
AC solenoids on Corollas can be used to replace those uber-expensive 2WD/4WD solenoids on a FJ62
Horns: pretty much any Mercedes, especially the big sedans
Don't forget the old-style Yorks from the early Volvos
Cool underhood worklight on some of the old GM pickups and Jeep Waggys

I just happened on the license plate trim at pull-a-part today. It came from a 1978 Corolla Wagon (don't know which years are similar). Pics to prove it.

Best part is, it cost me only $2.50. Now I have two spares.

Haven't bought one, but was browsing ebay today and happened upon an altimeter/inclinometer/compass unit out of a Mitsu Montero. Got me thinking....:hhmm:

I seem to remember most switches from mini trucks, and 4runners are supposed to fit into 60 s and 62 s. Not sure about non toyota vehicles, but I am sure a lot of european cars share the same size.

I found a bosch fan in an older mercedes, the horns from the same vehicle are good too.

stereos

the 1998 corrola stereo cd/ tape fits perfect as well as late model solara fit 62. Only had to schange plate angle, only screws no drilling. and cost was only 23.00 at 109 u pull it

3 bar = 43 psi btw ;)

Metric volts are all screwy tho...

I wouldn't say that the Volvo seats are a super easy swap, but they do fit. AFAIK, there are easier seat swaps (Subaru WRX, Corolla come to mind).

X2 on great idea for a sticky!

I remember a while back some guy stole seats from a Rodeo and they bolted in with minimal work. looked pretty good.
