After months of (mostly) lurking here and prowling Classifieds, Craigslist, Cars/Autotrader, I finally parked a Land Cruiser in my driveway. 2008, 122k miles, complete service records, dang near immaculate condition inside and out. Thanks to each and every one of you for enabling me (-:

Aside from the condition, previous owner had splurged on a lot of goodies:
  • Slee sliders
  • Icon suspension, including the Icon UCAs and lower trailing links
  • Rock Warriors with 315/70R17 BFG All Terrain KO's
  • ARB skid plates
  • Creature comforts (tint, bluetooth streaming audio, weathertech, remote start)
I'm pretty stoked to say the least. Although my wife isn't thrilled that she has to step up 19" just to get to the slider step. The discussion went something like this:
"I didn't realize it would be that high. Are all Land Cruisers that tall?"
"Only the cool ones."
Can you make it lower?"
"Yeah, if you want to RUIN IT!" :D

Now I need to get this thing off of the pavement!! And it appears that I need to start thinking about what must-have upgrade to get next ... lockers or bumpers? :grinpimp:

Looks good!

How badly do those 315s rub?
Thanks. Not bad from what I can tell so far. P.O. appears to have trimmed the wheel well/mud flap a bit (from memory here), I only noticed rubbing while reversing with the wheel turned hard.

Congrats! Great year and color...like mine :).

Congrats - clean looking rig with some great mods already done ! I'd lean towards bumper as the next mod...... you may want to regear when you do lockers.... depending on how your rig holds 5th and 6th gears with that much tire....

cheers

Congrats!!! You got that truck from a James in Mclean right? That's awesome! I'm glad someone from MUD picked it up! He told me he never went off roading with it so you're lucky there as well. I'm in Arlington VA, if you ever want to go somewhere hit me up. I have no mods, so not sure where I can go, but we can figure that out when the time comes.

I saw this on craigslist and was wondering about it since it never appeared on 'mud to my knowledge. x2 glad a mudder picked it up, it's very tastefully done!

Congrats! Lol my family thinks the lift came from just the tires. Luckily there's not many 200's around to compare with :D

Wow, I hope my truck looks that good 8 years and 120k miles from now. Nice find.

Really great looking truck!

That is correct, got it from James. Good egg.
I would love to head out for some off-roading. I am very much in the newb bucket, so no worries about doing anything crazy.

Thank you for not buying it! ;)
I take care of my cars pretty well, but also believe that they are at their best when they are being used for what they were designed for...whether sports cars hitting the track or trucks like these heading off-road. Looking forward to getting some mud on it soon !

I was really amazed. LC owners might tend to take care of these expensive trucks when new. But part of it might be the quality of the materials -- the seats look 2x better than a german car I have at 60k miles.

LOL. This is still an ongoing domestic discussion :(. I told her I could get some stock wheels / tires (e.g., Tundra takeoffs are pretty cheap), and it could lower it by 1.5". I had thought about that anyway to have more summer/rain tires and saving the BFG KO's for winter and/or heading offroad. But I am not breaching the subject of dialing down the adjustable lift.

Congratulations and welcome to the fold!

You've got a nicely outfitted rig already, and in mind mind just about perfect! My opinion, but bumpers look great, but will add negative performance. Not much will touch the bumper with that lift/tires. So unless you're a really hardcore offroader... And lockers aren't necessary with a-trac, unless again you're a really hardcore offroader (and even then likely not necessary). Enjoy!

Tell me more about "holding gears." I have read about regearing since the bigger wheels basically require more torque. i was figuring that was more about low speed, steep rock crawling, or towing. Are you saying that the truck may downshift more than desired if its running at highway speeds?

I'm afraid she is going to compare it to all the Highlanders about

Thanks. I realize I have GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). My main concern is avoiding the embarrassing fate of the Jeep GC that was stuck on level ground in 4" of snow...2WD, no traction aids. Can't abide a "faux by four"! But I have read enough here to know that the ATRAC is pretty impressive, but can be hard on brakes and CV joints. I am not close to being a hard-core offroader any time soon, and by the time I am, I'll know whether I need lockers (-;

Thanks everyone for your kind comments!
