I don't see a reason not to just rebuild the carb you have. I run a modified 72 carb on my 68FJ40 and it is awesome.
The only real benefit I have seen in a 74 carb has been one the ones that had factory vacuum advance. I can port any of the 1970-1973 carbs during a rebuild to add vacuum advance, thereby making it the equivalent of a non-US carb. I have a jig set up for it, I do so many.
