I have to admit I was/am one of those types of people that are very guarded/standoffish around new people. I think that comes from 18 years in law enforcement. Chairing the Flat Nasty event has helped me with that some, but I'm not the personality type to be that outgoing all the time.......

i must say my experience with tac was fantastic...from my first dsr with the fj55 all members were very welcoming...jake and i have always felt comfortable with the group...and all have answered all our questions and been more than helpful and patient with jake as he learns to drive his rig off road....i think this club rocks!....infact i have yet to meet a club member i don't like.....and frankly, a toyota is a toyota..40...60...80..mini...who cares we are all there to have a great time...wheel...and of coarse eat chilli!..just my .02

Let me jump up on my soapbox for a minute......

No flame suit necessary mike… shall we plan on feb 23rd beings it’s already in the making?

Don't feel bad, we have had the same experience.

Duane, Pam, and every other potential new member out there:
First off I need to apologize for not putting the welcome mat out…I, by nature, am a very reserved person and sometimes you need to poke me with a stick to get me to talk. With that being said I really do enjoy meeting new folks and getting to know the ones I’ve already met. The part of TAC that I really like is that it’s purpose is different to each one of us. We have people that “just want to wheel”…people that just want to talk cruisers…people looking for a family oriented group…the list goes on.

When I got into wheeling 8-9 years ago all I could think about was how can I get more flex and I gotta have the most/best/awesomest rig I could build…and that’s what I poured my money into. During that time I never even thought of clubs or tlca…it never dawned on me. Today my first trail rig is gone…I now wheel a near bone stock fj60 and I’m having more fun now than I ever did. I’m a little older—yes…I’m a little wiser—that might be pushing it…I’m a part of a group that likes the do the exact same thing I do—bingo! It’s not really about what rig you have…(you might get heckled more if you show up in something other than a Toyota, just ask my dad  it’s all in good fun) it’s about wheeling with buddies, wrenching on old rigs, hanging out, or whatever you want out of it.

My dad once told me that you get out of ___ what you put into it. (___ being anything in life). Tac is no different. Come to one of our events…introduce yourself and I guarantee there won’t be any stuffy attitudes.

Please don’t hold your previous perception of tac against us…that’s not at all how we are…ok jayhawkcruiser might be a little anti-social but that’s just one…;)

Matt,
Tac prez
Ps (pam, I thought you guys were already members as you’ve been around the club a while longer than I have been…)

Hey Duane, I hope you can make it to some tac events. I've seen you, and you're not that scary looking :D

I too thought like you, let's face it, I have a tacoma which is seen by many as the bastid child of Toyota (just ask Marlin). But I also read the history of tlca and understand that it was formed by those with similar interests (Toyota 4wheeling, which at the time Toyota only offered 4x4 in 40s, and "tlca" sounds better than "ta"). If I had the money I'd have one of each!

When I started out I knew my wife would be tolerant of my hobby, and I hoped to get her involved. All it took was one event (FN), where she met great people who were very welcoming (and accepting of the tacoma). Now she loves it, simply because of the people.

Prior to FN I had heard some horror stories, and quite honestly I wasn't all that excited about going. However, it turned out that either those people weren't there, or it was all rumor, because what a wonderful group.

Anyway, we'd be all for supporting the private lands, helping make KS Rocks more wagon friendly, and driving ALL the way to MO for the meeting :flipoff2:

Work weekend at KS Rocks?

Kan Rock BOD has meetings in Harrisonville Mo at
Partners Restaurant 2817 Cantrell RD 64701 816-380-2449
if that helps (good food also)

harrisonville is one location that has been discussed....ed long...degnol on the board mentioned a location there that might work....and according to tac old timers (sorry fellas)...that is about the center of our clubs geographic area....and harrisonville beats lees summit anyday!

Sheesh.. I disappear and you all get all emotional.

I'd like to apologize for not being around, i've got major family issues going on right now that take priority over everything. Not really an end in sight either but one can only hope.

Matt.. Looks like you got your hands full! Just kidding! I don't talk to people cause I'm shy! :)

Chris, let me know when and where to be and I'll do my best to attend..

is that a loaded ??
i can not say what went down in the past (or what was said)
so if you know some thing that i dont !! (out with it)
i have only been on the board for about 1 1/2 years
i am just tryin to open doors and have fun

Extremely loaded! Better research before you speak!
Chris, we need to start putting some sort of name tags, badges, or something on each of us at our events. We don't see everybody often enough to remember everyone by name, and some us don't remember a new persons name more than about 5 seconds, especially if there is a group of people we haven't met before. I know I feel somwhat stupid asking the same person what their name is multiple times. Another idea would be an online membership picture book so we can look up who we're talking to on the forum.

That's were being the membership guy comes in handy! Seen the name a few times, just needing to put a face with it.

They did (and may still do) have name tags the last time I was at Cruise Moab. Included not only name, but ih8mud screen name. Pretty nice and shouldn't be too difficult to incorporate into our plans for next year.

Sounds like an agenda item for the January meeting.
Is there a way to put a picture book on this forum?
