That Chef King is the one I have and is the macdaddy of stove top griddles.

If you got one of the new Lodge Fabricated steel griddles, then we'll need a full progress report.

Propane = Girly man camp cooking!

That probably didn't work very well when hanging with Andy and Tom and Pasquale..... They love BACON!!

For the record, "I'm" not the one with the problem :hillbilly:

I don't think anyone in the group is going to complain about Spresso's cooking.....

EVER....

{or his margaritas} :)

You didn't have my extra special gormette blackened pizza at the Inyo Mine :D The then new baking stone must have been at 1800 degrees as it turned black as black gets in all of 13-seconds...or so it seemed :D

OK, i just went and checked... it's a coleman! Yea, so it's a little cheaper. I looked at the lodge one's but they were solid hunks of steel with no handles. At least at the local store here. So i passed on it. Right beside it was the coleman steel skillet and so i picked it up along with the lodge steel pan.

Just make sure the griddle does not have a non-stick coating on it. If it does, take it back.

Or take it back anyway and buy this one from Amazon!

Do it for Onur! He still won't tell us what he did for that hippy that gave him the griddle that got this all started. It must have been traumatic!

LOL-That was still a great evening though. That pizza turned to coal in less than a minute. Pretty funny but everything else ever made by Spresso is the best camp food I've ever had.

Just looked. It actually is Steel but it also has a non-stick surface.

I think i'll take it back and stock up on some poo bags for the toilet! :)

I just wanted to report back that i tried my new steel pan last weekend on a camping trip. I want to set this post up with the fact that i'm probably the worst cook on this board. I'm not even kidding.

So, first attempt was a fail with pancakes. I had the pan seasoned just like spressoman suggested. It was beautiful and ready to cook. But, i also think i learned a valuable lesson also. I was cooking too hot! I recall cruiserdrew telling me that very thing when i was using his skillet to cook breakfast one morning, that i was cooking too hot. Maybe i'm impatient and try to torch everything.

First attempt was pancakes and they all stuck and burned to the pan. So i wiped it up and seasoned it again.

Second time i was browning some turkey to make tacos, and this time i kept the flame really low. In fact it was so low i didn't think i would be able to cook. Wrong, it was perfect.

So my lesson was to use low heat with these pans and be patient. If you do that they work marvelously.

Normal growing pains Alex, and sometimes you need the heat. You'll learn to judge it.

When browning meat, you need some heat-you want that Maillard Reaction for best flavor.

Pancakes definitely at a lower heat or they will burn before they cook through. We've all done that.

Beno thinks cooking means drinking Tequila until you can't stand or speak in full sentences.:worms:

However, I thought we taught you how how to make omelets and French Toast?

definitely taught him how to saute a red bell pepper

:D

I picked up some radio chatter between some of the It's-not-cast-iron-ers about a nifty piece of equipment used to clean steel & cast iron cookware. It's called The Ringer. It's basically a small washcloth made of stainless chainmail.

I just got it yesterday, so I haven't tested it much, but so far it looks promising. It scrubs off any stuck matter, but not the seasoning. Amazon reviewers says it works awesome on glass dishes and other scratch-resistance pieces.

Since it is stainless, you can pop it in the dishwasher or just use soap and water to clean it.

I also make soup stocks and after hours of simmering in a SS pot the baked on residual scum is often an exercise with plenty of elbow grease. The Ringer makes quick work of this somewhat challenging job without scratching or otherwise buffing/damaging the stainless. Ditto for burnt on food on aluminum baking pans, etc. Oh yeah...its killer on carbon steel and cast iron pans too :)

One is definitely going in the camp kitchen box!

I jumped on the deBuyer wagon a few weeks back and really been lovin' it ever since!
