The rest of the frame is solid, surface rust only. But these c channels don’t look great. Is this salvageable with plates and welding or c channel inserts or is the work not worth it. Price is pretty good and these rear frames and interior are only real work needed.

looks like it was undercoated in its early life, most likely helped preserve it
very fixable
@TRAIL TAILOR has the repair kit

No problem at all, will need a lot of work to get the rivets smashed out, iron is solid as a rock when you hit it.
Just look again in 2046
Good rust free stay at owners or go for insane amount and all rust, even the worst, is repairable in long term.

Yes, as others said, get the kit from Trail Tailor and plan on some quality time under the truck. I had my fuel tank out to install a fuel pump and this made this job MUCH easier. I purchased some 10mm x 180mm long drill bits that allowed me to drill up from the bottom and get the rivets on the top of the C in the rail if that makes sense. Saved a chunk of time faffing around with the whizzy wheel.

After some needle scaling, the rest of the frame looks like this and the c channels aren’t as bad as initially thought. I’ll replace eventually but it’s not top priority. For now I have to figure out the vacuum and carb mess left after previous owners “de-smog”!
