I just recently purchased a 200 after owning an 80 for several years. I found a super clean stock 2014, 66k, 1 owner, Tx truck - loving it! I've never driven another 200 so I don't have anything but the 80 for frame of reference. The 80 definitely had some driveline noise\hum but it seems more pronounced in the 200. It sounds like a fairly pronounced hum coming from the front driveshaft that changes pitch depending on speed. I was considering taking it over to Toyota but figured I'd check with you guys first.

Grease both Drive Shaft sliding section and all universal joints. There are grease zerk fittings on there. My 2009 is very quiet (and greased)...

My 13 driveline is silent for the most part. And... it was clear when I got it home after purchase with 107k miles that the front driveline hadn’t been greased in a LONG time, if at all. Totally different story than the rear that appeared like any other well maintained ujoint as I greased it.

I think those front zerks are so hidden and hard to get to they get missed by techs during routine maintenance.. possible yours haven’t been greased and a joint isn’t happy.

I’d get under there and grease everything. And while you are there closely inspect the front joints for orange dust or other signs of failure.

Can't say that I have heard anything, but I think mine definitely has excessive "vibration" for lack of a better word. It's still smooth, it's not really torque steer. It's like a hummm through the steering wheel. I don't know how to describe it, maybe I'm just OCD on it, but it is more pronounced under load/ brisk acceleration. Seems to be less pronounced and a smoother feel on other 200s I've driven.

Are those tour hp tires? If so they are famously noisy for a highway. The ones on my LX are about as loud as medium worn Duratracs.

Well this has turned into quite an ordeal.

I bought this truck on 12/12, noticed the hum on the drive home, didn't think much of it. Then I remembered having a similar issue in the 80 regarding the front u-joint\driveshaft a couple years ago. So I posted here on Mud for confirmation and then scheduled to have the truck serviced yesterday. It has been with the service department since and so far 2 master mechanics have been unable to locate the source of the hum. Oddly, they think it may actually be a *rear* wheel bearing. So the service consultant calls to give me an update and tells me that the paperwork hasn't been filed with the warranty company yet so they can't access the CPO coverage. He asks me to call the dealership that sold me the truck to try to get the paperwork filed.

Well as most of you know, on the 13th of December Toyota issued a recall re: passenger airbag and placed a 'stop sale' on *all* 200 series Land Cruisers. So this is where the trouble starts. According to the dealership manager, it's Toyota policy to not allow certification of any vehicle under recall and without a sanctioned fix. Makes sense. But I am now the owner of a vehicle that was inspected and sold CPO however is not registered CPO and therefor no CPO warranty. Also, the dealership manager thinks that Toyota may not even allow the vehicle to be released back to me until February when the fix is released.

Which leads to the next circumstance. I currently live in Austin, TX. I bought the truck in Easy, Tx (~150 miles away). I am relocating to Portland, OR on December 28th.

Anyhow - very crazy turn of events. I'm just waiting to hear back from the manager so I can figure out what I need to do at this point. Bizarre.

Wow that is totally crazy! Very sorry to hear about this. Please post updates so we can follow along. I need to bring my truck in for a warranty repair as well, but now I'm leery to go anywhere near a dealership if they're going to want to essentially confiscate trucks until the recall has been completed!

I spoke to the selling dealership manager again. Toyota thinks they may be able to honor the CPO status because the paperwork was signed the night before the recall went into effect. They're going to get me into a rental while they wait for the paperwork to get sorted out.

So far both dealerships have been great and super helpful. The selling dealership offered to pay for an additional warranty to get me through until the CPO warranty can go into effect in February (worst-case). But yeah - really bizarre circumstances. Toyota has been fantastic through this whole process. I never had service like this from Mercedes!
