I noticed that this chapter isn't listed in the latest Toyota Trails. Is this chapter still going? I'm willing to take over to get things back on track. Who was in charge of the chapter? Where were the meetings held?

Good luck in getting this one running again!

I suppose this chapter has seen its ups and downs, but I would be very interested in seeing it back up an running--even if it's just a few guys and gals meeting at an In and Out. I'm all for networking and getting some ideas on the next build! Who is the current president?

I live in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas and in the last two weeks I've seen three 80 series cruisers and just two days ago I waved at a guy driving an all-white 40 series on Charleston right in front of the Red Rock Casino. That's all in my neighborhood. I'm going to contact the TLCA and the old chapter chair to see about bringing it back. I want to get it going soon enough to organize a kick off event going over Wheeler Pass or Rocky gap or both just to get to know each other.

Cheers!

@Tachycardic so a couple of things. First, I did a bunch of searching on the internet and figured out that the previous president's email address is: john at casaday dash hollow dot com. I emailed him and am awaiting a response if any. Looking at old snapshots of the TLCA chapter listing page, the SNLC chapter was removed in 2016. The Facebook page for the group hasn't been updated since 2011. I used the contact form on the TLCA web site to send a message to the western region representative to ask for help with reviving the SNLC chapter. I'll see where this goes. Hopefully we can get control of the snlc.org domain and get old records, photos, minutes, and calendars of events so we know what they used to do.

Thanks for speaking up. I'm going to do my best to move this forward. Hopefully we can get it back up an running soon.

@Tachycardic the email to the old chapter president bounced.

Okay Vegas, I think you did all you can do. All those in favor of voting Vegas as the president (raises hand). All those who oppose (crickets).

Btw, I'm in the Aliante area. I don't see many LCs around, although I have seen a 40 and 200 series at work. Most folks I know either drive Jeeps, FJs, or 4Runners. I've been to BTB Products down in Henderson--it's like a small museum there. I got a tour of their shop and back yard. Nice guys. That would be a cool place to link up and maybe talk to the folks there at some point. Anyways, let me know how I can assist. Hard to believe that a place like LV doesn't have a chapter. Love to see this chapter up and running again--even if it's small!

So the Southern Nevada Land Cruisers chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the TLCA. It needs to come back. I live in Summerlin, W215 and Sahara.

I love the guys at BTB, I've purchased many parts from them. My project truck is a super-rare North American 1981 BJ42 (Serial #0000144 of all BJ42's ever made). I found it in northern British Columbia a few years ago. The guys at BTB called it "The Sasquatch" because 1) the factory paint code is the dark olive green, 2) it's a mythical beast that supposedly lives in the mountains of Canada that everybody has heard of but nobody has seen. The short version of everything I've learned from my research is that my truck was already on the boat when the EPA changed the rules for diesel cars in the US. So my truck came in through the port of LA but was shipped to Canada for sale because Toyota couldn't/wouldn't sell the diesels in the US. Mine has a km/h instrument cluster so that must have been swapped in at some point.

It would be cool to meet up down there some time. I wonder if they'd let us have a meeting there sometime. At the very least, maybe they'll let us put a stack of chapter stickers and contact info at their register to try to recruit people passing through their store.

I'm anxious to hear back from the TLCA and see what they say. Hopefully they can help us make the transition to new leadership.

So I did a bunch of internet archeology using the Way Back Machine to look at old snapshots of the snlc.org web site. It turns out that their big trail event each year was called the "Glitter Gulch Gambol" that was held in mid October. Here's a link to the old flier. With any luck we can get all of the info on it from past members and can get this chapter up and running in time to host a 2020 Glitter Gulch Gambol. I also noticed that there's a Nevada chapter of TTORA. They used to host an Easter-time event each year called the "Easter Mojave Road Trip". There's little chance of getting things going before then, but I'm going to try to figure out what it would take to do an unsanctions/informal/at-your-own-risk/I'll-be-there-if-you-will trip on that route near or on Easter weekend. Maybe we could get to know each other on the trail instead of at a Denny's. Either way, I think those two events, the Glitter Gulch Gambol and the Easter Mojave Road Trip, aren't being run anymore and we could take them over and get them going again.

After going through all of the old website snapshots and related links, I've gathered a few more email addresses of past presidents that I emailed to try to get information. I'll keep this thread updated as I learn more.

BTW, If BTB won't host us, I'm a member of the Synshop Hackerspace which is just a few blocks from BTB. The Synshop has a meeting space that is open for other groups to use as long as the meetings are hosted by a Synshop member like me. Or if we want to meet somewhere more central, I'm sure we can find a place near DTLV that would work too.

I got a fairly high resolution copy of the old logo. I'll try to clean it up and get some stickers made from Sticker Mule.

Cheers!

Good Info Vegas! I’m already a TLCA member and was just reading their section on starting a chapter. Pretty straight forward stuff. It appears that we need a minimum of 6 TLCA members to begin with.

There was mention about potentially doing meetings at a Toyota dealership as well. Perhaps members of other chapters here can give us a few tips as well. However, I’d love to meet at BTB, or maybe Man A Fre as it is more central?

lots of links to look through in your post. I’ll check them out this afternoon. Thanks for digging up all the old information!

I saw the 6 members thing too. That's why I've been trying so hard to find people who used to run SNLC. Maybe it's easier to revive a chapter than it is to start a new one? Maybe we can find four people who used to be members to join us to get us over the threshold. I'm going to keep digging. Still no word from TLCA.

I agree that reviving the chapter would be easier.

I just got an email back from the TLCA with the names and emails of four people that are current TLCA members that were affiliated with the SNLC chapter when it was active. I just emailed them all about getting the band back together again.

That is awesome! Hopefully you get responses and we can schedule a meet and greet!

mrboatman, are you interested in joining us?

Did you mean to do @mrboatman?

@mrboatman are you in for getting the band back together and reviving the SNLC chapter of TLCA?

Yes thanks!

Also, I saw this 40 this morning at work. Hope to catch the owner and talk to him. Maybe it is @mrboatman, or is it yours Vegas? :D

It's not mine. That's the all-white 40 series I saw the other day on Charleston right in front of the Red Rock Casino. We exchanged waves. I've seen it before in the Costco parking lot and I'm making new SNLC stickers and a contact card so I can tuck them under their wipers next time. I also plan to do that for any LC I see around town. I'm going to call BTB today and see if I can post a flier at their place, maybe near the register to recruit more people.

My 40 is a pile of parts right now. I'm in the middle of blasting and reparing frame cracks and rotten steel. Here it is before I took it apart:

For the record, what I'm driving right now is a '96 LX that looks like this:

So wave if you see me. I'm in Summerlin but I also spend time in Henderson near BTB and the Synshop and Water St.

Sweet rides! Love to see your BJ42 up and running! Here’s mine...don’t know why it is rotated...

I should be the only one with the sirio antenna mounted up front like that in the area. Still haven’t decided what to do with it yet, but I think I may need a sturdier mount of off-roading.

Yea I would be up for a meet up sometime.
