Is this 40 worth 6500 bucks?

Not with an upside down Bezel! I personally wouldn't pay over 3k for that cruiser. I've seen better deals for a lot less. It only has a 3 speed and stock brakes,steering and motor and visual rust. I know of a FJ40 same year but probably better condition asking 4K. But at least it is a convertable FJ40 you don't see to many of those!
What do you mean by convertable? It looks like a run of the mill hard-top to me. Whether it's worth it or not depends on the market in your area. Around here people have paid that much and more for nothing but a fresh paint job, everything underneath worn out.
I wouldn't buy a cherry looking outfit like that for any price because I would end up beating the crap out of it. Chances are good that it has been treated well and has unlimited miles of fun left in it. I have continuously beat on mine and none of the critical components have ever let met down. Nor do they appear likely to. Shop around a bit, then if you feel good about it, buy it.

Nothing wrong with the Bezel! They were installed both ways at the factory.
It doesn't look bad, but you can find a much better cruiser for less money. I wouldn't go with a 3 speed. If I didn't already have one, I would seriously consider this 77 for $4500

It looks like a good straight rig. It is getting harder to find these trucks that have not had someone molest them. If you are looking for an older model 40 for its vintage appeal then this may be the one. I would do some searches and get some background on whatever year and model truck you are looking at (search button above). Know what the dash should look like, know what the seats were and what they looked like, etc... The key is to find a truck that has all of the parts in good working order. If you are looking for a trail rig, then this one probably won't do, but if it's stock that you want it may be perfect.
The price does seem a little steep. But, you can always find cheap ones that you could sink a ton of dough in a week after buying it. If it is stock you want make sure the truck is complete as parts are getting harder to find and more expensive.
Decide if bone stock, trail rig, or mudder is what you want and make sure you do you homework on it first. If one passes you by before you make a decision it wasn't meant to be. (in my book anyway)
