Well add another 2LTE (Prado) head to the recyclers, cause mine is pouched.

My coolant keeps bubbling over into the overflow tank, with a mixture of air and coolant. temps are above norm 190's, with sudden spikes (190-230). I think this is caused by trapped air, then followed by more 190 coolant . I've repeatedly topped up the system, but only to have it bubbling out. I haven't checked to see if there is coolant in the oil yet.


Does anyone have any advise? other than " told you so"

yep, go find a gasser 22RE and bolt it in...
i really should do a install and write up...

the gasser has the same or better power, same or better fuel milage and MUCH ceaper if you ever need to rebuild...

I definately like the sound of getting away from the 2lte, and replace with something more bomb proof.

I'm kinda hooked on the diesel thing, but in the end cost and ease of install are big factors. And from lots of first hand experience the 22re (91 p/u) can go hard all day.

In that direction would the 22re bolt up to an 2lte automatic Tranny/transfercase, or would that have to be swaped out as well?(though a 5 spd manual would be preferable from the gasser)


Anyway, the truck is probably going to sit for while. So Yah Wayne ! do a swap/write up so us duct tape mechanics can get it right the first try.

I haven't considered the Kz, only cause I thought I read that they have somewhat the same issues. Though if not, that would be a definate option ( if the price was fair)

I believe they came in the 93- Prados?

I think a few of the aussies have had a head issue in their surfs...but not to the extent of the 2lte...you might be able to find more info at ToyotaSurf Australia Site and yes they came in the 93+ Prados and surfs and are starting to show up in trucks in Canada now
