Is a front locker worth it, or just an excuse to spend $$ and break stuff?

Well, it performed flawlessly at River Shiver yesterday, although I didn't need it much, and still needed to chain up for one icy luge run after 3 or 4 failed attempts.

Johnny, I've seen a video of an e-locker engaging the disengaging somewhere in the 80s section.... if I come across it, I'll post the link. As for twisting the splines, I hope to hell I don't run into a broken or twisted shaft but I don't think I'm too hardcore with my 3FE, stock gearing and 33s.... or the 29s :hillbilly:

Can you give me some insight on the wiring harness you made? I'm about to pick up an e-locker for my rig in a week or two.

I've thought about picking up an 80 e-locker computer but that seems difficult as they are hard to come by. I may just convert it to a cable locker but I would like to see how expensive it is to make a wiring harness.

Post 66 has some links in it. I believe the one of Amaurer's and the external link have wiring diagrams. I ended up using a circuit design much like the first diagram in the external link, but wired the motor indicator light in parallel with the motor (so it lights whenever the motor is receiving current) rather than having seperate lights for locking and unlocking. I used a spare power antenna switch to control power to the relays, and IIRC, the position switches in the locker actuator itself to supply ground for the relays.

I'll keep an eye out for the wiring diagram I drew up when I am back out at the farm in a day or two. If I find it I'll get a pic and post it up.

IIRC, the required ingredients for the wire harness was 2 relays, some connectors for them, enough wire to run 7 or 8 lengths between the locker and dash and some solder. Don't forget some tubing to extend the breather line out of the locker actuator (still need to put some on mine :hhmm:).

HTH, Curt.

about to do a re-gear (hopefully soon) and go lockers too. Since I already have a power trax ns locker for the rear...that's going to get re-installed and ordered a aussie for the front.. and then to 4:88 gears. So later I can add 35 tires. 35's will be max size..
