IPOR skid install

I put a floor jack and an extension (ie: 2x4's) under the rear output shaft flange....jacked until the weight was just off the stock crossmember, then did the swap...

probably not the safest method, but it won't be the first time...

I have had good success with using a ratchet strap from frame rail to frame rail raising the back half of the case using it's lowest point. Just make sure you don't put it somewhere you can't get it out of once the skid is installed.

I just let Cam put mine on. But he basically did what woody said, put the truck on the lift, used a tall stand (not sure the technical name for it) and rested the rear output flange on the stand. Raised the stand high enough to raise the case, then bolted the plate up, lowered the case back down and tightened everything back up.

need to change that IPOR design to have recessed hex bolts like bud built skids...those things are sweeet.

Does Bud Built make 80 skid plates?

No. He was never able to get an 80 to use as a template. He was gonna use mine but he moved away sadly.

Really?....hmmmmm....didn't he move to NC

I like that pig skid. But why not just make a skid that bolts to the 80 series tranny crossmember? the pig skid tucks up but still has to dip down to cover the tcase output. It would seem you could have a flatter skid if you just laid a piece of steel atop the oe crossmember. there are already 2 tapped 8mm holes on the frame lateral and behind the oe crossmember on both sides. would be easy to tie into these 4 holes and the 3 tapped holes already on the oe crossmember. simple and flatter. the skid would also angle down from the frame taps to the central piece of steel covering the tranny for exceptional strength as apposed to a flat piece of steel. why hasn't this been done? toyota has already done the work

Hey Andy, found the perfect 80 for you. You can stop buying them now......;)

Ha, LOL Alex. How did I miss this thread?????

I didn't know you and Jason were heading up that way. I need to figure out a free weekend soon so I can go pick it up!!!

Thanks for the pics, I've been bugging Lance for some. He actually sent me a few from the shop tonight. That's the 1st I've seen of it since the summer. Awesome, can't wait to wheel it!!!

I agree - Lance is a good guy and easy to work with. Lucky to have him so close. He does great work, is an honest guy and does things the "right" way.

I am going to copy these pics and put save them. If you have any others, let me know!!

Youv'e seen more of my own ride than I have!! :D

The 80 skids used to have countersunk trans mount hardware but customer feedback called for a design change. It's EASY for us to install that way here in the shop, the truck is on a lift and we have all the proper equipment. Much more difficult to do in a gravel driveway.... :-) Thus we deleted the countersinks and added two slots for the factory studs. If we receive feedback that people are having problems with this arrangement we can add a small skid plate just to cover the trans mount studs. This would increase production costs so we opted to wait for some real world experience before taking action that would cost you (the consumer) more.

Bud and I are tight. I pushed him to do the 80 skid for years, even told him I would let him have my 80 for as long at it takes. Ultimately it wasn't fitting into his production schedule with all the minitruck products he had under development. I asked if he would mind if I designed one similar to the mini-skids he does and he was okay with it, thus the IPOR 80 skid. Consequently Bud does sell FZJ80 skids, but we manufacture them. We sell Bud's FJ cruiser skids, as well as any other products we can find a market for.

There are drains for trans and tcase. Future models will include drains for the earlier 93-94 trans as well. We thought about doing the skid as a two piece but increased production costs became a concern.

Skid with brackets weighs about 60 lbs.

Please feel free to provide any feedback - we do listen!

Lance
