Hi @PEOPLES . Thank you the information! I’ll definitely take a look at the rear swing arm mounting and post a photo for your review/advice.
There are a couple fuel leaks I need to sort out but the engine seems to run well. Clutch engagement is good and transmission shifts smoothly.
You were reading my mind about adding a turbo. I’ve located a kit, which may find it’s way onto the engine this winter .
Hey, I picked up a 1991 Bandy last year and I really .. NEED a turbo as mine tops out around 55/60 with the Merc 364 (like it around 2500 rpm).. would you mind sharing the kit link? Would love to share info back and forth as sourcing parts and issues ... on these US rare models are a bit tricky! Send me a message and I can text some pics of mine!

Bom dia.

The 364 should anyway have more torque. Does your engine produces a little bit smoke if you give "full throttle"? It's possible to adjust the amount of diesel a little bit, but be careful with the exhaust gas temperature.

Those are the Kits. But those are not really Plug-n-Play, there is a lot of adjustments to be done. But basecally they work well. The Kits here come with a .42/.48 Turbo, sometimes a local manufacturer or garrett. But I think a K16-Charger would even be better.

The OM364 came as a OM364A or OM364LA Version (with turbo or turbo/intercooler), so there should be more parts avail. The original engines with turbo had a piston cooling. With a little bit of additional power, it should work without. But if you're looking for the 120-140hp-range, there are maybe more modifications necessary.

This is mine OM314A w/o intercooler. Around 85hp on the wheels. The problem is, the dyno has to less intertia, so the engine revs up to fast to build up full pressure. On the dyno 0.8bar, uphill he will make around 1.2bar. But with a diesel without boost-adjustment this doesnt mean, that there is much more power with the additional boost.

The good thing, that is a direct injected diesel so it will take a turbo well. Look at the Holset HE221w 5.5 cm. I run one on my BJ74 and it’s great. I’m boosting 17psi stock now quickly. It’s a popular turbo for the 4bt and 4bd1t which are the same size as the om364.

There are shops online that can make adapters for the manifold and then you just need oil supply, drain and exhaust.

Would be nice to have a boost compensator but to get you started this will be a great start.

BenzForce | Mercedes Performance - https://www.benzforce.com/ you can get a genuine Cummins/Holset for under $600 with exhaust backplate.

Nice Bandeirantes you got there. The long chassis vehicle is my favorite too.
@92Bandy can you give me dimensions for the trunk space? Like from rear door to seats?
