Intolerable 200 Series Review

Oh dear...

I soldiered through because it’s my year and color...

Some low-lights and...well...more low-lights:

They were super impressed with the very “substantial” running boards—because...they’re metal! Lol! Sidestep removal was literally the first thing I did to my identical 07. :) Super weak, damage multipliers if you hit anything.

Why did they decide they didn’t want a 100 Series?
-Because, “it’s FRUMPY.”
:)

Last and least: Go to minute 14:30 or so where they MUSTER THE COURAGE to drive up a sorta little bit snowy, mostly dirt road which they call the mountain. -They are literally screaming and high-fiving each other for making it up a slightly wet, mostly dirt road without dying...after instructing each other that the key is driving fast...and going “balls to the wall..,” Kinda funny.

 But...
But at least they concluded it would most likely end up rescuing their unreliable “rescue vehicle...” their Land Rover. Yay! Thay got that right! And...that it is easily the most reliable overlander for sale today.

Ha, the 100 series was really bland and it had a timing belt which decreases reliability, whereas this 5.7L has the timing chain.....

Puke.

Ya that 2UZFE is a real POS. I hear you can only expect 1.5 million miles out of them these days

I really didn't have a negative reaction like you guys did. I understood that these guys had their cruiser for what, a few days? So it makes since that they aren't totally up to speed yet on the ins and outs of all the LandCruiser models. And I actually agree with them about the 100 being boring. Come on, look at the body style. Looks like an older Subaru Outback. If you watch Hoovie's garage, in one of his videos he went on about how the only thing missing from his 100 series was some personality. For me, I thought it was really cool to see a couple guys excited about getting a LandCruiser. Yeah they're not that hardcore, but not everyone is. I would expect them to put out videos in the future with more specific and accurate details about their 200 as the get to know it better. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up checking out this forum as well.

Most of these guys reviews/videos are pretty s***ty but they do get their hands on a lot of trucks for comparisons, thus their popularity.

I lost interest pretty quickly with the build up to the reveal and all the "legendary" cliches so only made it in about 4 minutes I think. Realized I had already bought one and thus didn't need to stick around for their opinion.

That said, any exposure is good exposure, and someone who evaluates it based on it's target audience / capability is welcome. Sooooo tired of "MSM" car reviewers panning the LC and 4R for not driving like a crossover "SUV" -- most of which are built on a minivan chassis but with different doors. "Why is it so heavy? Too bad it doesn't have independent rear suspension! It doesn't handle like the BMW sedan I just reviewed." Ad nauseum.

At least the reviewers got it off the pavement and showed it would get most buyers safely to their mountain cabin.

Sure, these guys aren't the classic, great TV personalities. Which really might be part of their success.

They're relatable to the every day person.

Personally, I think they're on point about the side-folding 3rd row seats. Whereas the mainstream media dismisses the side folding and criticizes that it should fold into the floor. That's ignorance as it's a body on frame vehicle and you'd wind up with a huge liftover height if configured that way.

Too bad the mods moved the original thread to chit-chat.

so 100 has no personality and is boring : but 200 has amazing personality and is exciting ?

I did find amusing amusing...but also interesting as I think back on changing visual preferences. In 2918...their description of frumpy May have been closer to true that I thought.

Changing perceptions:
Driving around in my 100 series...I distinctly remember the first time I spotted the 200.

I *hated* it the new 200’s pudgy, bubbly look. And the Highlander thing was real at that time.
It literally took me several months before I could distinguish it from the version of the Highlander that was out at the time unless it was close up.

I think the 200’s debut version—for 2007–looked far worse **at the time** than the 100 did when it debuted in 1997 (98 model year).

For the present day, 11 year on, I think the stock 200 since 2016 actually looks better than the 100 did, and far better than the 200 did in 2007.

On the other hand, the stock 2008 looks a lot better NOW than it did in 2007...which hmmm... Maybe it means the 2008 was ahead of its time??? Haha... Who knows...

I do think that in 2018-19...the stock 200 does now make the stock 100 look a little funky. Perhaps top-heavy...or something. But trends change and impressions obviously change.

Hey they have over 524k subscribers, there are so many people who don’t even know what a land cruiser does, or even that it exist. I for one love that these idiots are bringing the land cruiser more into the public eye. I think it’s a great thing for the Land Cruiser personally most people thought my land cruiser was a highlander??? 4 runner??? People that know Land Cruiser don’t need to watch this cause we already know that yeah those sturdy running boards will get smashed lmao but hey at least they are taking it somewhere and showing it doing something so I’m happy

Ha! True. :)
Ya, it is RARE that anyone other than fellow Cruiser heads figures out what I’m driving because the “Land Cruiser” name is hidden behind my swingouts.

4Runner...Jeep...Sequoia...Highlander...Land Rover... :)

So why don't you guys educate them - any spare seats in your next Moab adventure?
They already spent a weekend with Expedition Overland and got educated about the entire LC by Kurt. I don't think anyone else here could do it better than Kurt.

But honestly, I've watched a ton of their videos in the past when I was looking at getting the LC. I watched their raptor, Tacoma, 4runner, on and on... they are your super mainstream middle of the line customer profile that knows two trails and they go there twice a year with their buddies to show off who has the tallest truck with the biggest tires and the loudest subwoofers. They pander to Ford so they can get a free raptor now and then. Watch their videos, never will you ever hear them talk up a truck more than the raptor and I think it's on purpose, they get free Raptors. It would be bad business for them to truly discuss a Land Cruiser and its capabilities in their own words. They'll let Kurt do it on camera, but they wouldn't do it. Need that new raptor, yo.
