I'm having some trouble chasing down some electrical gremlins since I put the truck back together. Initially, I had functional interior lights (the ones that work when the doors open); the only problem was the PSR door switch wasn't working. Now, I have no switched interior lights. The PSR switch still doesn't register that the door is open (the alarm rearms itself after 30 seconds, even when the door is open, and the door open light on the dash stays off), but the other switches register an open door (both on the dash and with the alarm). I have the light on the moonroof controls, both vanity lights, the moonroof, and the ignition ring light functional. After poring over the electrical FSM for a couple hours, I realized that I'm too electrically ignorant to troubleshoot this solo. Any suggestions as to where I should be looking for a short? Could the one switch being non-functional take all the others with it?

Nope. Neither of the rear switches no longer work in mine, yet the front switches work fine.

I second cam75, sounds like a blown fuse.

I've got the same problem, the switches seem to be working (the door open indicators work for all the lights) but there is not dome light operation. The fuse is under the hood on the drivers side, mine is fine. Is there another fuse on the interior lights?

Any other ideas? Post up if you've cured this before.

Dumb question: Does the dome light come on when you move the dome light switch to 'ON'?

Interestiing. I lo\gged on tonight to research a problem I'm having with my Dome lights and I saw this thread and decided to check it out. When i open the driver or the passenger doors the lights come on. If I open the second doors on either side with the front doors closed the dome lights willl not come on. However the rear door will switch on both dome lights if the front doors are closed. Is there a switch on the rear passenger doos to make the dome light work when they are opened. Just put Georges dome lights in and I would like thenm to come on when taking the kids in and out.

They are supposed to work when you open the door. Mine did, in fact, for a while. I just don't know where the short is that's killing mine, or how to find it. Of course, with my luck, it's possible that I just somehow managed to burn out both bulbs simultaneously. I probably should investigate that possibility lest I feel even dumberer.

My rear door switches (both sides) have corroded from lack of use, I took them out and sprayed them with contact cleaner and they work a *little* better but not much. More R&R needed....

My issues were caused by faulty switches (see picture above). If you search the way-back machine, you'll find writeups on taking the switch apart, cleaning & reassembling.

I just ordered replacements from CDan-the-man... inexpensive and easy to install.

Are you getting +12v at either terminal of the dome light when it's turned on?

I'm guessing that you are not, since both switched paths to ground fail to give you light. If you are not getting +12v, then you know it's between the fuse and the dome light, and has nothing to do with the door switches.

I've got no power at either terminal of the dome light, or map light.

my dome lights work in the ON position but do not work in the DOOR position. i know the car knows the doors are opened since the door open indicator lights up on the dash. anyone else have this problem?

This is sounding like a plug was not reconnected during reassembly. Does that sound right? Let me get this straight; your dome light works if thefront doors open but not the back doors? So the circuit that delivers 12v to the back door switches isn't getting power. Would this be under the door sills or under the carpet? It has been a while since I looked.

The dome lights are switched on the GROUND side. If you have no +12V at either terminal of the light, then you have a fuse issue, or an open between the light and the fuse. Check/reseat the fuse, then bust out the multimeter if necessary.

Test each door (with the switch in the DOOR position). If none of them trigger the light, then you'll probably need to bust out your multi-meter to locate the fault. Otherwise its most likely the door switches pictured above.

As mentioned before, some (a few) have had temporary luck simply cleaning the switches. I recommend replacing them for a permanent fix (call CrusierDan -- they're cheap, and easy to replace).

I had dome light issues that I traced back to a faulty diode. On my 91 there are 2 diodes that plug into the harness in the left kick panel. If you have the schemos for your truck you should see them.

I was not able to get +12 at the door switch, all other door switches worked fine.

However, my dome lights always worked manually, just not from the driver's door switch until the diode was replaced.

Been working on my dome lights yesterdag evening. Both switches in my back doors are not working anymore. Pulled them out and tested them with the multimeter in the Ohm position. Nothing was going trough. I also had a broken dome light unit. I took it off the the truck and the switch between DOOR OFF ON wasn't working anymore. This was also the reason why my batteries ran dead a few months ago when I had put in LED replacements. Because I had put in a LED light, I didn't see the light was still getting power (but nog 12v) even when the switch was in the OFF position. LED's only work when they get enough voltage. If I had used a normal light bulb it would have seen it shine very faintly I guess...
