Well, after spending the past week stripping out the interior on my rig, I was able to spray the interior with a product called Gator Guard II. I read THIS thread and went with post # 14...Thanks for the info Sparky_Mark. I did as he recomended, sand blast down to bare metal, primer, then coat w/ the bedliner spray. I bought 2 quarts off of e-bay for $117 shipped and a schutz gun for $14.00 shipped from e-bay.

The problem I had was from years before someone spent alot of time and money at a body shop with this rig, and someone thought it was a good idea to put an 1/8" thick or thicker layer of body filler in the entire bed:mad: that I had to chisel out with a hammer and screwdriver.

I also removed the toolbox under the driver's seat .

Pretty dirty, huh?
After a weeks worth of cleaning and beating and grinding with a sanding disk, I had gotten all the body filler out of the bed.

Yesterday was a great day here, 80 degrees and sunny. I put the wheels on the cruiser and wheeled it outside, where I sandblasted the interior down to bare metal. I then cleaned all the sand and sprayed primer throughout.

I then followed the instructions for mixing the 2-stage bedliner spray. This stuff is NASTY. I used the schutz gun and sprayed the interior , used both quarts. I really like how it turned out.

Don't wear clothes that you care about...this stuff will ruin whatever it gets on...but thats the goal isn't it... we don't want this coming off anytime soon.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. It seems like it will be very tough and wasn't that hard to apply.
Here is what is going back inside:grinpimp: :grinpimp: :grinpimp:

Now I just need to get some friends over to put the cage back in, and I will be alot closer to actually driving my cruiser!!!

thanks for posting. looks like all your hard work paid off. I'm in the process of peeling layers of putty/filler off the entire rear end and wheel wells of the 42, so I understand what a pain in the butt this can be. Let us know how the liner holds up.

Strange, I doubt you were taking bondo off. Probably one of those smooth bedliners.

Nice job by the way.

Man that looks awesome. I've just picked up a 75FJ and am overwhelmed with the stuff I want to do, and stuff I NEED to do. I'm totally new with restoration, where did you get the roll bar setup?

I am dealing with removing old rolled in bedliner material that is peeling. It is a real mess. I hope I end up with a product as clean as yours. I am also curious about the cage. Is that all custom?

Thanks.

Believe me when I say it is body filler. I have worked with body filler since I was 17 years old. I have restored a '69 Roadrunner, '71 Torino, '70 Mach 1, and I have seen and used my share of body filler. This '71 cruiser even has some cheaper spray-in bedliner OVER the body filler in the rear area:rolleyes: there is a 5" circular area on the side that is missing and it must be close to 1/4" thick. It's a good thing this isn't a show vehicle:lol:
