On my 4 + bumper the receiver was tight due to the heavy powder coating . A little bit of scraping and filing you will have a tight fit. The paint on these bumpers is sub par and will peel with exposure to road chemicals they use in Arizona in a short amount of time .

Thanks guys, I managed to remove the stock bumper without breaking anything haha! Now I need to remove those rivets, I got an air chisel and grinder, is there a trick to get it done easily? I did a test on one rivet and it was hard not to be messy and took a while actually, so any tips are welcome!

I never found a trick...air chisel and hearing protection....got old but did not see a better approach. Get in where you can with a grinder but mostly loud @ss air chisel.

Thanks @Elbert! I already did half of it... I have to do short sessions otherwise I'm afraid my neighborhood will not handle it. Also do you guys applied something on the scraped powder coating to avoid rust?

What's the trick to remove the remaining part of the rivets (cf. pictures attached)?

I drill into the center of the rivet then use a drift and a BFH to knock them out. It looks like you were drilling the lower rivet. You need to drill about 1/2 way through then beat on it.

Dyno

I used a grinder until almost flat with frame. Used an old drill bit with a BFH and went to town.

those are the easy ones.....you got plenty of access to that.... grind rivet even with frame, then take a punch and BFH....not to hard to get out with out with that type of access.

Recently picked up a 4Plus bumper. I've read a couple of posts on Mud regarding the install process. Seems to be a difference in the number of rivets to remove. It's either 7 or 11 per side.

After pulling the bumper, it appears that there are 7 per side that would need to remove. Can someone confirm?
  • 3 that hold the bracket for mounting the OEM bumper. (Image 1)
  • 4 that hold the crossmember to the frame (Image 2)
  • (There are another 4 that are attached to the body mount. Assuming those do not get removed.) (Image 3)

i just looked up under mine and yes the four on the body mount came out and are replaced with bolts that also got through the bumper attachment. look at the new bumper and just compare the hole pattern to what rivets match. i’m pretty sure you’ll need to take all 11 on each side
