I just had my injectors (1HDT) pulled, cleaned and reset. Now I realize that under heavy loads you will see some amount of black/darker exhaust, but it seems still a bit heavy. Could it be the the air intake is poor? Or what about the fuel setting? Or could there be some restriction in the exhaust? I think I will look at the air cleaner first, but thought I would see what you guys felt...........

Injection shops often put seals across the screws that adjust the pump settings.
Mine has bits of wire clamped with lead
If they have been broken maybe someone has played with the settings.

Its difficult to tell from descriptions whats normal and whats excessive as they will blow a little balck smoke under heavy load.
Can you see it easy in daylight from the rear view mirror?

And yes the air filter is important.

How do you turn up the boost? by how much and since I dont yet have manual i can read need some assistance.

cheers

I think you can make up a gizmo to insert in the wastegate actuator line that delays the wastegate opening. Try searching the archives.

There are also some settings on the fuel pump that governs boost compensator behaviour. I'm not a diesel mechanic though and wouldn't know where to start on messing around with those settings.
