That is preceisely my concern, the potential for a "honor among thieves" scenario. Don't want to sound paranoid but I haven't had much experience with dealers that would make me feel secure.
 
Is there any way you can take it back to the selling dealer for diagnostics/repair? I know you said it was 4 hours away, but they have their reputation on the line to make things right.
 
I'd buy a cheap code reader ($40 at HF) and see for myself -without erasing the code, watch out for that!.
Useful to have around anyway.

But again, if you have a written statement you're probably fine, you can always do Small Claims Court if need be. They may be counting on you being too far away to deal with all this, though, so you might need to be forceful in any case.

It's worth being paraoid given the nature of the industry ...
 
You guys are funny :) He has it in writing, go to the local dealer as instructed get the CEL fixed and send the bill to the dealer that you bought it from. They will pay and if for some strange reason they didn't pay you can take them to small claims court and hurt them with the BBB, etc. Don't worry be happy and enjoy your new ride. I've never had a dealer not honor an agreed upon correction on any vehicle I've purchased.
 
I found one!

Well, we picked one up this weekend. I was able to find that perfect condition 100 with all service performed by Toyota and filled out in the little service handbook.

Specs:

2000 "Champagne" Silver Landcruiser with 68,000 miles. It was a corporate vehicle and very well cared for.

It is actually the wife's car so it will be tough to add upgrades without her noticing ;)

Congradulations, it sounds like a great find! How did you find it. Did you buy it through a private owner or a dealer. Did you pick it up for less than $27k. What part of the country are you located in. Alright, I'll stop short of "20 question time".
 
Yes, purchased through a dealer in Fremont, CA, paid $30k for it, but it was worth it.


What is everyone running for gear oil in the diffs and transfer case?
I have been using Mobil 1 but since it is near impossible to find a store here in the Bay Area with more than 1 or 2 bottles I have considered swithinc to Valvoline Full Synth which is also cheaper and available.

I took the truck in late yesterday afternoon to have the CEL condition checked out at my local dealer. The diagnosis is bad right side O2 AND cracked right side exhaust manifold. No part in stock so appointment set for next week. Local dealer contacted selling dealership but the person responsible was out of the dealership at the time. I was buried in work and snow today so no time to check in with dealer but will call tomorrow afternoon if I don't hear from selling dealership by then. The plot thickens....

It's a little thicker. I see on www.toyotapartscheap.com an exhaust manifold list for $254 and they sell for $203 so the part cost isn't too bad. It will be interesting to see if the selling dealer pays for both or just the O2 sensor since cracked exhaust manifold doesn't have a failure code. I wonder what cracked that manifold?

Actually, local dealer claims cracked manifold would throw a code -something about air leak upstream of O2 sensor. Part cost not too bad for manifold but they are saying 6+ hours labor if I remember correctly. They quoted me about $1,000 for manifold and sensor replacement together.

You said you brought it by mistake for your 80 series few months ago so you sold it to me.

Ha Ha. I was trying to "hide" everything from my wife until they all showed up and I could build the ultimate 100! You still have that winch and bullbar in your garage for my 100 right? ;)


Thanks Derek! We will slowly convert the 80's group all the 100's! After Amando showed us what he could do with his in Moab I was sold. Now, I just ned to convince my wife to let me borrow it for CM06.

Update on CEL during/after purchase issue: dropped off the truck this morning and picked it up at the end of the day. New O2 new manifold no charge (covered by selling dealer). Now, time for bigger tires... 285's or 295's hmmmm....
