I've had my Cruiser for over 20 years, several F engines and now a 2F. with a Fireball ignition. I keep reading about ballast resistors and ignitors but have never had either. Am I missing something, or should I have them?

No ballast resistor was for the points to kept them from burning up or over arching. At least that is what I thought

If the Fireball ignition requires 12v constant power then no I would not run the ballast resistor

If the fireball system came with a dedicated 12v coil it won.t need a ballast. The old original coils will get hot running at 12v

The main reason for the ballast system is to allow full 12v to the coil when cranking to help starting. Once running, the coil receives about 8v due to the resistor.

In reality when cranking, the voltage drops quite a bit unless you have an enormous battery , so the coil only receives about 8-10v even without a ballast.
