Dude when it comes down to it and engine swap would have nickel and dimed you to death, youd see if you tried it. Even if you made all your own motor mounts and stuff you could do by yourself, youd be suprised what will kill you. I swapped a 22re into a truck originally equipped with a 20r and a 4 speed manual and right down to throttle cables, wiring, swapping ingnitors, etc etc etc, a lot of little needs rear there ugly head when you get the old motor out and the old tranny mounts cut off. Good luck with the new to you engine. I've never done a swap like that but I would almost say that a 2wd oilpan would give you more clearance, I know that on a 2rz or a 3rz you actually put a 2wd oil pan in to clear the front suspension but 22r's may be different.

the pans are also different from solid axle to IFS not to mention the 2WD differences. and if the pans are different the pickups are most likely different too. i was kind of wondering about your logic too but i'm glad you chose to stick with the yota. you'll be a lot happier with it i'm sure.

The oil pan and pickup tube may need to be changed, they are different in different vehicles. The oil pump is behind the front pulley and has nothing to do with the motor fitting in the truck.

You are correct. I was thinking pick up tube but typed pump since it was easier to understand.

Okay, so the oil pump is the same, but the tube needs to be swapped out to reach the deeper oil pan. Got ya.

How hard is this to do? Also, I'm guessing the 4wd oil pan is probably better for wheeling anyway, because a flat oil pan will let all the oil go to the front and the engine will die (at least my 91 buick did, and it nearly killed me)

With IFS you will need the pan that goes with the truck, it fits right over the front diff with about 1/2 inch of clearance.... Super easy, just drain oil, remove pan, remove pick up tube, install new pickup tube, install new oil pan. refill with oil. Shoudn't take more than an hour if you take your time.
