Identifying gears in 3rd members

I'm going to head down to the wrecking yard in search of a front and rear 3rd member with 4.88 gears, front & rear.

I've read that these 3rd members were used in v6 4runners with factory 31's..Well, is there a better way to identify the gears by looking at a number on the diff or something?

The axle code on the info plate will read G144 and the end of the pinion will have a white paint mark on it. I think the 4-bangers had them too with the tow package maybe...

4 cylinders with automatics had them. i kicked my self in the *ss for not pulling them out of an 85 auto that i had.

4Runner Yes same 8" 3rd.

What's a good price for the 3rd?

I got one for $50 and one for a hundred, both used but ready to run.
$100-250ish is usually what I see them go for.
