I'd like to swap the Nippondenso AC out of my 71 going to be for sale pig into my gonna keep it 75 pig. I just had the compressor rebuilt and have a new receiver dryer. It all looks original and undisturbed other than the compressor rebuild. Anyone done this? How big of a job? Can it be done? All ACs back in the day were port installed - I'd like to keep the Nippondenso unit just because it looks cool - even if it wont really cool as well as a new unit.

Thanks

The Nippondenso unit does look cool.

I would think that the biggest PITA will be swapping over the unit in the dash. Not the condensor, but the heat exchanger that cools the air blowing into the cabin...

AKA: Evaporator

I would think moving this unit from under the dash of one Pig to under the dash of another would be a PITA

there is a change in the firewall somewhere after 73... I'm not sure when the blower/air box changed, but the firewall cutouts are completely different across the change-over. I really don't see why the heater/evap box couldn't be swapped into the 75 w/o moving the entire dash, but I don't have an example to make certain. it's just steel....

How about...keep the blower/recirc/vent box on the later firewall, install heatercore/evap box from earlier pig and have a transition duct made(or make one)maybe blower outlet to 4"round, 4"flexduct, 4"round to triangle, a couple 4" band clamps:meh:

Yeah there were no real Factory Installed Acs then everything was port or dealer installed same kit. This is what the inside the pig looks like, did'nt blow thru the existing heater/defroster system. It all worked but the compressor needed to be rebuilt. Mud memebr Cool Stream AC in AZ did the rebuild for me - I haven't charged it yet but would like it more in the 75. I'm gonna have to sell the 71.

I'll bet you take that thing down and there is another bracket that you can swap over no problemo.....
