ICON Wheels?

To me it was the argument between a hub concentric wheel and spacer vs. the non-hubcentric wheel if one of potential set backs. Is running the ICON's any worse than running RW wheels and a 1" spacer?

I'm with you and had the same mental debate. It's a trade-off and results in a different compromise.

Hub-centric rings fit inside the wheel hub to ensure the wheel is perfectly centered when mounting. Granted the 60 degree acorn-style lug nuts should do this if they're tightened correct (hand tighten in a star pattern first before cranking them down to torque specs). They don't change the backspacing of the wheel. Without them if the wheel doesn't get centered correctly you may experience vibration similar to an unbalanced tire.

Wheel spacers can be hub-centric or not. Wheel spacers are designed to decrease the effective offset of a wheel. If you're using a 1" or larger spacer then the spacer bolts to the lugs and has its own lugs that the wheel bolts to.

In either case decreasing the offset results in a change to the scrub radius, changes to the turning arc (and potential rubbing), and increased wear on your wheel bearings. Whether or not you are concerned about any of those changes is up to you to decide.

FWIW I decided I trusted Icon wheels more than someone elses spacers. I can always figure out a hub-centric ring solution if wheel balance is ever an issue (my current thought would be to use custom 114.5mm-to-110mm rings and remove the rubber O-ring from the center cap). I personally just felt the Icon wheels would be stronger than spacers, and didn't want to risk having a shop that wouldn't work with me because of them. I was not concerned with additional wear on the wheel bearings and hubs due to the increased leverage that lower offset wheels apply, and scrub radius isn't optimal but on 34" tires RWs and factory wheels would be off somewhat as well.

Really like the rebounds, might have to wait for those....

I found this on another forum from 10/5/17:

5x150 is in the works for rebounds, rebound will not be a 5.75" backspacing like the six speed. It will probably be between 4.75 and 5.

I spoke with Icon last week. The rep said these should be available within two weeks. So this week or next. Same specs as the six speed wheel and with a bronze offering. I like the look of them.

Damn those are some good lookin wheels!

Not that I need the extra strength but I wish Icon would officially announce a higher load carrying capacity for their wheels, since I heard they were testing them months ago.

I wonder if these will be 110mm bore.

I wish my Six Speed wheels had bolt on caps like these.

Running them for 6 months first with 285 70 17 BFG ATKO2's. Recently put on a full set of 285 75 17 Ridge Grapplers, very happy so far. I do hit the KDSS bars at full right lock, but it's not very often that happens.

My caps came off after a few high speed desert runs, but a previously mentioned, ICON set me a few to replace. They are all glued on with Loctite Extreme, supposed to be heat and shock resistant, only time will tell.

What’s the offset on those rims?

Specs are as follows:
17"x8.5" - 5 on 150, 5.75" backspace, 25mm offset

I actually have these up for sale. Doing some testing and modeling of new rims for a local vendor. Theses Icons have been great wheels, if I wasn't trying to help a buddy out I would leave them on.

Very cool. Thank you for that info. Do you have a lift at all? And did you need to trim guards or mount at all to fit those 285/75s tires? I’m looking at the rebounds and trying to figure out tire size w/out adding a lift. Any insight is well appreciated- thanks for your input!

I was looking at Icon's website and they do not have a 5x150 bolt pattern listed on the Rebound wheels yet.

I just ordered a set of the Six Speed wheels a couple weeks ago along with 285/75r17 KO2's. Hope to have them in another week or so. But then will have to wait until June to install when I have my appointment at Slee.

Congrats

Yep - Icon told me the rebounds would be 1st-2nd quarter (18') before our specs need wheels were in and available. I haven't checked back since. I do like the rebounds and they are supposed to have a higher load rating than the 6 speed so that's a plus for those how care.

See my thread called "34s on stock suspension".

I do have a lift standard fair OME with SPC uppers. To clear the 285/75 17's I had to remove the front mud flaps and trim/melt the inner fender at the front behind the bumper.

I do still hit the KDSS bar on the drivers front. May be able to fix that by bringing the caster back a bit with SPC's.

Possibly. I rub the KDSS ever so slightly. I actually rub the sway bar on the passenger's side more, but my caster is about 0.5 degrees over max. Next time I take it in for an alignment I'm going to have the tech play with the SPC and cam bolts to try and correct it

I have them on all my land cruisers, like them because they have a very thick bead for low tire PSI situations.

My rigs have the titanium color, one of them has the satin black,.

Found more photos from my main rig, for ya. And YES they are very strong, I have jumped my lc so many times, hit many rocks while desert bashing handled every bit of it.

I received the following message from Icon via Facebook on Tuesday (12 June 2018) morning:
"We will be announcing news on these in the next couple weeks"

Additionally, this was posted on their Instagram recently (13 June 2018):
