I'm looking at the Icon stage 2 suspension kit but a couple folks on here have posted that the remote reservoirs not only allow for a much better ride on pavement but that they also like the ability to change the suspension performance based on the trail, so I'm having second thoughts

Are the remote reservoirs worth getting the stage 5 kit? Should I get the stage 2 and just upgrade the front or rears to the rrs? Which would make more sense to have them?

Remote reservoir allows for more linear nitrogen pressure. This allow for a lot more consistent damping as the valving does not have to compensate for big changes in gas pressure. Not all remote reservoir are adjustable.

Dobinsons MRR Adjustable are much more affordable than Icon stage 5. They have triple adjustable and still use rubber bushing, which I think are better for daily driver.

Thanks for the explanation and suggestion.

I think it doesn't matter what stage icon you get. The adjusters can be added anytime as long as you have the RR.

But you don't get both the front and back remote reservoirs until stage 5.

You can buy the shocks individually and not necessarily by stages. Personally, I'm planning to buy just front and rear w/ RR's only. I'm not interested in the other components in the packages. Also, the savings from buying a package isn't much different from individual. Metal tech pretty much always has 20% off Icons for black Friday.

That's a good point but I do want the UCAs and I need the rear conversion kit with the airbags so the kit makes sense for me. I didn't know they usually do a good black Friday sale, I wonder if they'll still do it as good this year considering the market for offroading/overlanding is so hot right now. Does anyone know someone with a MetalTech promo code or a supplier who can get a discount? I also don't know if I can wait until black Friday lol.

The weight of the GX warrants a RR. The extra dampening is dramatic and you will feel the difference, regardless of the vendor. I have a GXOR spec Slinky kit which is tuned by Slinky in OZ for the Prado GX based on Icon and it rides amazingly well. Money is a consideration in all things of course. Treaty Oak Offroad sells the GXOR Slinky kits.

I ran an Icon kit without RR for a short period. It was decent when I had no armor, bumpers, fridge and RTT. After adding a lot of weight, I switched to a metaltech heavy spring. When I made that jump, I upgraded to adjustable RR rears. The difference is significant. I'll be doing the fronts after I take care of a few other higher priorities.

If I were starting with a fresh canvas, I'd get the adjustable RR shocks and not look back.
